Road to Super Bowl 60 for the Seahawks
The Seattle Seahawks had one of the more impressive regular seasons we've seen in recent memory. Seattle entered the season with their win total set to 7.5/8.5 by most bookmakers and projected to finish third in their own division (+600 to win NFC West). The Seahawks started the year with odds close to (+6000) to win Super Bowl 60 and now here they are, one game from making that a reality.
The NFC West was an absolute gauntlet this year. The division had three teams make the playoffs, all three finishing the year with 12+ wins and all three finishing with the most wins in the entire conference. The Seahawks would win 14 total games, go 8-1 on the road and 9-3 against their own conference.
Seattle won 7 of their first 10 games this year but lost the first of their two divisional matchups with the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers. After their Week 11 loss to the Rams, the Hawks would win 7 in a row to close out the season and none more important that their win over Los Angeles in Week 16.
The Seahawks entered the 4th quarter down 16 points, but somehow forced overtime and walked it off after a 2-point conversion for the win. The Hawks would close out the year with a definitive 13-3 win over the 49ers and now their win streak stands at 9-games, entering the Super Bowl.
Playoff Hawks
After securing the top spot in the NFC, the Seahawks got the extra week of rest and got ready to host the 49ers in the Divisional Round. The Hawks made quick work of the 49ers, winning 41-6 and never trailing in that matchup.
Technically, the Hawks played eight divisional games this year if you include their two playoff games. After beating the 49ers, it was Matthew Stafford and the Rams coming to Seattle for the NFC Conference Championship. Seattle trailed for less two minutes against the Rams, despite the game being much closer on the score board.
The Hawks would go on to win 31-27, with Darnold throwing for 346 yards and 3 touchdowns. He finished the day with a passer rating of 127.8 and got revenge for the loss Los Angeles handed him last year. Seattle's defense has been great this year, even though they did get torched last week by Stafford. Staffy finished with 372 yards, 3 touchdown passes and Puka Nacua finished the day with 9/165/1.
Their defense is one of the best in the league but Stafford just had them figured out. Can Drake Maye do the same?

Legion of Doom
Seattle's 1st in the NFL in points allowed, 5th in opponent redzone efficiency, 10th in pass yards allowed and 3rd in opponent rush yards. They're giving up just 4.5 yards per play (2nd) this year and it's all because of Mike Macdonald and how he operates this defense.
The defense ranks 1st in EPA/play allowed and have the league's best run defense. They've forced the 5th most turnovers in the NFL this year and it's how they've been able to mitigate Darnold's turnover issues this year. Seattle ranks 5th in sacks this year and they've got the perfect blend of pass rush and coverage guys that have set this defense apart. Seattle's got the 2nd highest graded coverage unit and 3rd highest graded run defense.
The Hawks also have the 5th best redzone defense, allowing opponents to convert just 50% of their redzone trips into touchdowns. They rank 1st in opponent third down conversion rate and it's how they've been able to get off the field so often. They allow just a 32.1% conversion rate on third down and we saw just saw Los Angeles go 1/8 on third down last week.
Sammy Sweetheart
Darnold's been great for the Seahawks this year. Biggest game of his life came last week and we saw him throw for 346 yards, 3 touchdowns and complete almost 70% of his passes. Darnold's now won 30 games over the last two years, more than any other QB in the NFL and he's done it with two different teams. He's also thrown for 4,000 yards in back to back years now and finished the year as a top-10 QB by most metrics.
Darnold finished 5th in passing yards this year, 4th in completion percentage over expectation, 4th in pass success rate and 1st in highly accurate throw percentage. Through two games in the playoffs, Darnold's completing 69.8% of his passes, averaging 235.0 pass yards per game and he's thrown 4 total touchdown passes.
He's been a top-10 QB over the last two seasons and a Super Bowl win this year would put him in the upper echelon of those conversations. He's come a long way from his days as a New York Jet and he's still only 28 years old.
Seahawks Super Bowl Betting Breakdown

Super Bowl 60 odds opened with the Seahawks as a 3.5-point favorite, with early money steaming this to -5 in some places for a short time. The line's since settled at 4.5 and that's a line they've covered in 11 of their 17 regular season games. The Hawks have covered the respective spread in 14 of their 19 games this year, including both playoff games so far.
The Seahawks finished the year tied for the best regular season ATS record (12-4) with the Rams, Jaguars, and Patriots. Sam Darnold has also thrived in his career as a favorite.
As a favorite of:
- > 3 points: 17-3 SU | 12-8 ATS
- > 4 points: 15-1 SU | 11-5 ATS
- > 5 points: 14-0 SU | 11-3 ATS
- Average margin of victory in games with spread >5 points: 16.1 PPG
Despite hanging their hat on defense, Seattle's also trended towards the over in a majority of their games this year. The Seahawks are 11-8 to the over this year with both playoff games going over both their respective totals and the current total 46.
Can the Seahawks put the finishing touches on an amazing season and cap it off with a Super Bowl win? We're going to find out soon enough.
