Gatorade History
The history of Gatorade and the NFL go back a long, long time. From almost the time of it's inception in 1965, Gatorade's been synonymous with football. First developed in the research labs at the University of Florida (Go Gators!), it was designed to be a carbohydrate/electrolyte rich form of hydration, made specifically to replenish and refuel athletes.
It's tough to put a specific date on when the postgame Gatorade baths began but the most referenced story is of the great Bill Parcells getting drenched after a regular season win in October of 1985.
The Gatorade Bath has become a custom like no other and though it may be reserved for just the biggest of games, it's become a huge part of the prop market during the Super Bowl.
Going back to 2001, we've seen 25 different Super Bowl winners. In these 25 games, we've seen orange Gatorade the most frequently (5), but only by a small margin. Red/pink is still the only color to still never make an appearance in the big game and it's why odds indicate the same.
- Orange – 5 (20%)
- Clear/Water – 4 (16%)
- Blue – 4 (16%)
- Purple – 4 (16%)
- Yellow/Lime/Green – 4 (16%)
- None – 4 (16%)
- Red/Pink – 0

Recency Bias
Last year after the Eagles won their second Super Bowl in franchise history and the Gatorade was lime/green/yellow. It was just the second time since 2009 we had green/yellow Gatorade with the only other team being the 2018 Eagles. The Eagles' choice of Gatorade means nothing this week, but it does maybe lean toward the belief that teams aren't keen on change.
The difference between the 2018 Eagles and the 2024 Eagles is stark. From coaching to the quarterback to every other position on the field. The one thing that was the same was the color of the Gatorade on the sidelines.
The Chiefs have won three Super Bowls since 2020 and had purple Gatorade in both of their most recent wins. The next most winningest player/team would have to be Tom Brady and the Patriots. Brady won seven Super Bowls, six with the Patriots. In New England's three most recent wins, they had blue Gatorade in two of the three and Brady's Buccanneers also drenched their coach in blue Gatorade.
Superstition and habit might be one thing we see team's lean on in one of the biggest games of their lives. That being said, the Hawks have one Super Bowl win in their franchise's history and it was orange Gatorade coming out of the cooler.
Super Bowl 60 Gatorade Color Best Bet
This pick really comes down to who you think wins this game. With the Seahawks coming in as a 4.5-point favorite, it's easy to be chalky and think the lime/yellow Gatorade will be the obvious choice. The Seahawks team colors have the lime green, they've got the lime green jerseys and I'm sure we'll see a ton of that same lime green in the stands.
Visually it works, but it seems too obvious. This is the same franchise that celebrated with orange Gatorade back in 2014 and would it be a stretch to think they'd like to keep it consistent? Orange Gatorade also represents the most frequently seen color since 2001 and we haven't seen it on the field since 2020.
On the other side, if the Patriots do pull of the upset; what color are they most likely to have on the sideline. The fact that we've seen blue in two of the last three Patriot Super Bowl wins makes me lean that way and the youth on both rosters makes me move away from clear/water. Both the Seahawks and Patriots represent two of the four youngest rosters in the NFL so I just know it's Gatorade on the sideline, not water.
Final Pick: Blue Gatorade (+240)
