Of the teams that did not make the NCAA Tournament, only Rutgers, who was bounced in the first round of the NIT by Hofstra, ranks higher than Oklahoma State in adjusted defensive efficiency at KenPom.

Entering today, the Pokes rank 12th in that category, which puts them ahead of ten of the teams that will be playing in the Sweet Sixteen.

That defense came to play against both Youngstown State and Eastern Washington, both of whom rank in the top ten in the country in shooting percentage.

Defensive Results for Oklahoma State in the NIT

Youngstown State

  • Season Numbers for Youngstown State: 81.9 PPG, 48.7% FG, 36.5% 3PT
  • Numbers vs Oklahoma State: 64 points, 35.5% FG (22 of 62), 28.6% 3PT (8 of 28)

Eastern Washington

  • Season Numbers for Eastern Washington: 76.7 PPG, 49.0% FG, 35.8% 3PT
  • Numbers vs Oklahoma State: 60 points, 38.6% FG (22 of 57), 29.0% 3PT (9 of 31)

If the Cowboys produce another strong defensive effort tonight against North Texas, they will likely win and cover. This season, they are 15-4 SU and 13-5-1 ATS when allowing fewer than 65 points.

Oklahoma State has also been good value for money as a favorite of five or fewer points. In the seven instances that they have been favored by five or fewer points, the Cowboys are 6-1 SU and 5-1-1 ATS, with the only outright loss a home loss to Kansas State on February 25.
