Giants @ Dodgers Analysis & Breakdown
Clayton Kershaw makes his long awaited season debut tonight.
It's late July and the Dodgers are coming off a brutal loss to their division rival, the Giants. They lost 8-3 last night, after winning both Game 1 & 2 of this series.
Tonight marks the last game os this series at Dodger Stadium, but more importantly it marks the return of their Ace; Clayton Kershaw.
Kershaw's been out all season due to off-season shoulder surgery and it looks like the rehab's right on schedule. I doubt he goes even 5 full innings, but it's a much needed morale boost after last night's loss.
The Dodgers are now 5-1 since the All-Star break despite the poor play of Shohei Ohtani. He's batting 0.217 with just 1 home run in six games.
Three of these games have come against the Giants, he's gone 2/12 in these 3 with just 1 walk.
If the Dodgers want to get back in the win column tonight, they'll need Ohtani to turn it around.

Fredward Freeman is one of the most consistent batters in the MLB and no that's not his real name, it's Frederick Charles Freeman.
He enters this game after going just 1/9 in his L3 games, all games against the Giants. If you watched last night's game you know he really shouldn't have had a hit at all. Miscommunication between the outfield resulted in a dropped ball and a Freddie double.
Freddie's batting 0.288 this season and 0.305 at home this year, but he's hit a bit of a slump since the All-Star Break. He's batting 0.238 in these six games, but still managing 2 home runs.
For the Giants tonight it'll be veteran Logan Webb. He started the season great, posting a 2.74 ERA through his first 12 starts and giving up just 2 home runs.
Over his last 9 games, he's posted a 4.66 ERA, giving up 5 home runs. In the month of July, he's got a 6.50 ERA across 3 starts with 2 home runs given up.
Over the course of their careers, Freeman has really won the bulk of these head to head matchups. He's posted a career 0.412 batting average on 34 at-bats.

Ohtani sends another one deep into the outfield.
No surprise really, but we're rolling with Shohei in this afternoon matinee game. Shohei's another Dodger that's been struggling since the All-Star Break, posting a 0.217 batting average with just 1 home run through six games.
He's got just 4 home runs through 18 games this month, a significant drop off from the 12 home runs he hit last month even if you adjust for pace. We're reaching that point int he year where the amount of games is taking it toll on players.
Ohtani's now played 100 regular season games this year, only missing 3 games so far this year for Los Angeles. He's been phenomenal at home, recording a 0.313 batting average and 0.646 SLG (17 HR).
In his career, Ohtani's batting 0.333 against Webb and with the way Webb's been playing over the last month; I love this spot for both Ohtani and Freeman to break out of their slumps.
