The Arizona Diamondbacks could have been irreparably deflated after losing Game 1 of the World Series in the manner in which they did. Instead, they quickly picked themselves up and hammered the Texas Rangers in Game 2 on Saturday in Arlington.
Now, the series has moved to Chase Field, and the NL champions are three wins away from a title with the next three games at home. Can they take a series lead with a win in tonight's Game 3 (8:03 pm ET, FOX)?
If they do, it will tip the odds in their favor, and not just because they are at home now. Across MLB, the NBA, and the NHL, each of which has best-of-seven playoff rounds, history indicates that the team with a 2-1 series lead wins the series much more often than not.
In the NLCS, the Diamondbacks added their name to the list of teams that has won a series after trailing 2-1 with their comeback against the Philadelphia Phillies.
But whereas being down 2-1 against the Phillies was a positive after they went into Game 3 trailing 2-0, a 2-1 deficit against the Rangers would represent a missed opportunity.
Who will take a valuable advantage this evening at Chase Field? The Rangers, with World Series winner and three-time NL Cy Young Award recipient Max Scherzer on the mound tonight, are slight favorites.

Prediction: Arizona Diamondbacks to win
On paper, you'd give the edge to the Rangers and Scherzer, one of the top pitchers of the last decade-plus and a certain Hall of Famer, over the Diamondbacks and Pfaadt, a rookie.
But Pfaadt has been the better of the two in this year's playoffs. He has posted a 2.70 ERA in 16.2 innings across four starts, while Scherzer has surrendered seven runs and nine hits in 6.2 innings in his two playoff starts.
The Rangers are 8-0 on the road in the postseason, as they swept the Tampa Bay Rays on the road in the wild-card round, won two on the road in the ALDS against the Baltimore Orioles, then swept all four games in Houston in their ALCS win over the Astros.
But all good things must come to an end, just like the Phillies' home dominance did at the worst possible time the NLCS against the Diamondbacks.
