After severe weather postponed yesterday’s game, the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox will finally begin their four-game series on Tuesday. The AL East rivals are scheduled for a doubleheader with the first Yankees vs Red Sox matchup taking place at 1:35 p.m. ET.

The Yankees head into tonight’s action after Sunday’s 4-3 extra-innings win over the Milwaukee Brewers halted a three-game losing streak. Meanwhile, the Red Sox avoided a fifth straight loss with a 7-3 win against the Baltimore Orioles over the weekend.

If you’re looking to make some Yankees vs Red Sox wagers today, this article has you covered. Continue reading for the latest matchup odds and information, as well as the best bets for this afternoon’s contest.

Yankees vs Red Sox Doubleheader Game 1 Preview

Making the playoffs is a long shot for both teams, but a win this afternoon will keep those slim postseason hopes alive. The Red Sox currently sit six games back of the final American League wild-card spot while the Yankees aren’t much further back at eight games.

Having said that, if the visitors want to reach the playoffs, Aaron Bone’s club needs to find a way to end its skid against Boston.

After all, the Yankees are a dismal 1-8 against the Red Sox in 2023. Making matters worse, New York has tasted defeat in each of its last seven encounters with Boston, losing by an average of 4.4 runs per contest.

If that isn’t bad enough, the Bronx Bombers are also 0-3 at Fenway Park while getting outscored 25-8 on aggregate this season. Even though the Yankees are 6-1 in their last seven road games, it’s clear that playing in Beantown is a whole other challenge.

Can the Yankees finally put an end to their losing streak against the Red Sox this afternoon?

At the same time, the Red Sox are looking vulnerable right now. Not only are they 1-4 in their last five games, but they’ve also dropped four of their last six divisional matchups.

On top of that, Boston has given up a whopping average of 7.6 runs over its last five games, including a total of 27 in the last three games alone.

Needless to say, the Red Sox need a strong start from right-handed pitcher Nick Pivetta. Unfortunately, he’s been more reliable as a reliever than a starter this season, going 4-5 with a 5.87 ERA in 12 starts compared to a 5-3 record and 3.07 ERA in 22 relief appearances.

Meanwhile, the Yankees’ Randy Vasquez is set to make his first start since August 16. He’s made two relief appearances since then, playing to a 2.08 ERA as he allowed one earned run on four hits while striking out seven batters over 4 1/3 innings.

Yankees vs Red Sox Prediction and Best Bets

  • Yankees vs Red Sox Prediction: Yankees 6, Red Sox 5
  • Yankees vs Red Sox Best Bets: Yankees ML (Best Value: +133 on Bovada) & Nick Pivetta Over 3.5 Hits Allowed (-165 on Bovada)

All streaks must come to an end and the Yankees are due for a win at Fenway Park. The Red Sox are playing poorly and have been allowing a ton of runs lately. With Vasquez looking more poised than Pivetta on the mound, I see New York winning the first game of the doubleheader.

As for a player prop, I’m taking Pivetta allowing over 3.5 hits (-165). After all, he’s allowed four or more hits in each of his last 10 starts and just surrendered seven over 4 2/3 innings in his latest appearance.

With the Yankees averaging 7.1 hits over their last seven road games, I expect Pivetta to give up his fair share of hits this afternoon.
