With reigning winner Gerrit Cole sidelined until at least June (and perhaps longer), the AL Cy Young Award race is wide open. Two of the potential contenders will take the mound at Comerica Park this evening, as Pablo Lopez and the Minnesota Twins belatedly begin their series against Tarik Skubal and the Detroit Tigers. The scheduled start time for the opener of the four-game series is 6:40 pm ET.
The series between the Twins (4-6) and Tigers (7-4) was set to start Thursday afternoon, but the scheduled opener was washed out.
As a result, the opener will now feature two of the early AL Cy Young favorites. Lopez, who was an All-Star for the first time last season, is 1-1 with a 2.84 ERA in two starts this season. At +900, he currently has the third best AL Cy Young odds.
Standing between Lopez and frontrunner Corbin Burnes is Skubal (+600). Last season, Skubal missed the first three months then went 7-3 with a 2.80 ERA in 15 starts. This season, the former Seattle University product is 1-0 with a 2.92 ERA in two starts.
If Burnes continues to pitch well, he will be difficult to dislodge him from the top spot. But a strong start for either Lopez or Skubal in this matchup can only help their position, though there is still a lot of baseball left this season.

Minnesota Twins vs Detroit Tigers Betting Analysis
With two very talented pitchers on the mound, don't expect many runs in this matchup, given that offense is not a strength for either team.
The Twins are averaging just 2.9 runs per game thus far this season, while the Tigers are averaging just 3.8 runs per game so far. So, the under has a lot of value, especially with the two aces on the bump.
I don't love either of these teams enough to make a big commitment about a moneyline or run line play, but at these odds, backing the Tigers to win isn't a bad investment.
It's still very early in the season, so trends and statistics don't come into play as much as they will later on in the season. Right now, vibes factor in almost as much as anything else, and the vibes are favoring Tigers ML and the under.
