Two of the best in the American League face off on national television tonight as the New York Yankees take on the Houston Astros on ESPN.

This edition of Sunday Night Baseball features two well know teams throughout the world, yet the Yankees have not lived up to the standards this year.

New York sits in last in the AL East, a total of 17.5 games out of 1st place and even 3 games behind the Red Sox for 4th.

The Yankees have won two straight and are looking to close out this road sweep.

The Astros trail Seattle by just 1 game in the AL West, and the Rangers are just 1 game behind them in 3rd.

The Rays or Orioles seem to have the 1st Wild Card spot locked up behind 6.5 games ahead of the Astros who currently sit in the 2nd WC spot.

Houston has the Rangers on their rear, so they would much rather win the division and guarantee a playoff spot as soon as possible.

Let’s break down this Sunday Night Baseball Matchup!

Yankees vs Astros Game Information

Tonight is the 7th and final meeting between these teams. The Yankees lead the season series 4-2 after winning both Friday and Saturday Night.

Houston will look to defend their home field for pride and playoff seeding tonight as New York attempts to complete the road sweep before heading home.

Yankees vs Astros Best Bets

I do not think the Astros get swept tonight with Javier on the mound.

They’ve only been swept twice this season, yes both times at home, but by the Reds and the Mariners, two very good ball clubs. In a 162 game season, there’s going to be rough patches.

But against the Yankees on national television? Gimme the Astros to pull this one off.

Yankees Astros Sunday Night Baseball Prediction

This is a high line for Javier, but it’s because he’s facing the Yankees.

Last year he struck out 13 Yankee batters in a game in the Bronx. This year he only struck out 4, but now he’s back at home where he’s more comfortable.

His ERA drops to 3.40 at home, and he posts almost 1 K per Inning, but I really love his history against some of these Yankee batters.

  • Aaron Judge: 4 Ks in 8 ABs
  • Giancarlo Stanton: 5 Ks in 6 ABs
  • Isiah Kiner-Falefa: 3Ks in 14 ABs
  • DJ LeMahieu: 1K in 2 ABs

As a team, New York is 10th in K% to RHP this season, striking out 23.5% of the time.

But over the past month, they are 4th in the league, and that number sky rockets to 27.2%.

Even thought Verlander and Brown couldn’t touch this line, I think Javier comes out with a different kind of fire on national television.
