We head to the City of Brotherly Love for some MLB action this Monday, as the Philadelphia Phillies host the Seattle Mariners for the first game of three in this series at Citizens Bank Park. Both teams are caught up in very tight divisional races, so wins will be crucial coming down the stretch when fighting for playoff seeding. We've got our favorite picks in this contest tonight, will the Mariners turn things around?

Cal Raleigh and the Mariners take on the Phillies on the road tonight
Seattle is currently 1.5 games behind the Houston Astros in the AL West, but they used to lead the division. The Mariners just got off an eight game winning streak, but followed it up by losing four of their last five games to drop in the standings. Plus, Seattle has also lost seven of their last 10 games away from home, with a 31-32 road record this season.
These two teams haven't played yet this year, and this is their only shot to show the other who is boss, unless this is a potential World Series matchup.
Now the Phillies lead the NL East by five games over the New York Mets, and it seems like a two horse race anyways with the Miami Marlins a full 12 games behind. The Phillies are back home after a 10 game road trip, and they are 37-21 at the Bank this year. I expect them to give their fans something to cheer about this evening as we quickly approach playoff baseball.
Matchup Information – Mariners vs. Phillies – August 18
Venue & Location: Citizens Bank Park (Philadelphia, PA)
Two studs take the mound, but both could use tonight to bounce back from a slump. Logan Gilbert has a 4.07 ERA during his last four outings, and a 4.86 ERA on the road this season. His WHIP also inflates to 1.38 away from home this season, which is horrendous, considering overall it's sub 1.00.
Gilbert struggles on the road and it shows, and batting wise, the Mariners are much more comfortable at T-Mobile Park.
On the Phillies' side of things, Ranger Suarez has gotten shelled recently. He's given up 11 earned runs in his last two outings, including an ERA of 6.15 over the last month. His splits are actually worse at home overall this season, but the Mariners are a perfect team for him to refocus and get back to his winning ways.
Give me the Phillies at home. BetOnline is giving us the best odds on the market, and the Phillies are ready for playoff baseball. They already seem to be in postseason form. Sure, they lost four of their last six on this road trip, but they have a stellar home record. The Phillies hit .253 overall, but that increases to .269 at Citizens Bank this year.
Suarez should get plenty of run support even if he has another rough outing.
The Mariners' .243 batting average drops to .239 against left handed pitching this season. They are also hitting a measly .221 since the All Star Break ranking dead last in the MLB, and No. 4 in K% during that same stretch, striking out 24.5% of the time.
While I do like Suarez to sit down plenty of hitters, I think backing the Phillies as a team is enough for me, as they should supply plenty of runs to back their pitcher tonight at home. However, Suarez for six strikeouts is priced at -110, which is certainly a go for me with the way the Mariners are swinging the bat.
