In Thursday's opener at Fenway Park, the Orioles led 10-4 going into the bottom of the eighth. But the Red Sox made things interesting, pulling within a run in the bottom of the ninth before Adam Duvall struck out to end the game.

Will the Red Sox Rebound Better in 2023?
There were a number of reasons why Boston won only 78 games and finished eight games out of a wild card spot last season.
One of those reasons was a struggle to bounce back well after losses. In 2022, the Red Sox were 38-46 (.452) in games following a loss, which was good for last in the AL East, 10th in the AL, and 18th overall in MLB.
How did the twelve teams who made the postseason fare? First (Mets), second (Astros), third (Braves), fourth (Dodgers), fifth (Cardinals), sixth (Blue Jays), eighth (Padres), 10th (Guardians), 11th (Mariners), 12th (Yankees), 15th (Rays), and 17th (Phillies). For what it's worth, the Orioles finished seventh (45-33, .577).
So, it's safe to say that improvement in that area will be key to the Red Sox outperforming expectations–at BetOnline, they are +320 to make the playoffs and -430 to miss the playoffs–and making a push for the postseason.
Another key will be a healthy season for Sale, who has made only 36 starts in four seasons since helping lead the Red Sox to a World Series title in 2018.
Sale will be opposed by Kremer, who played an important part in Baltimore's turnaround last season. That didn't include any success at Fenway, however, as he lost both of his starts in Boston.
In those two starts, Kremer allowed seven runs, a dozen hits, and five walks in 10.2 innings. Kremer had a .285 OBA and a 1.39 WHIP on the road last season, compared to .239 and 1.12 at home, so that is something to watch out for today.
