The first Subway Series of the 2026 MLB season is upon us this weekend as the New York Yankees take on the New York Mets at Citi Field. Now, the two teams will go head to head in September at Yankee Stadium, but this weekend, the Mets play at home. It hasn't really helped them this year, as they are just 9-12 at Citi Field and find themselves at the bottom of the NL East, 11.5 games out of first place. The Yankees have been playing much better and are just two games behind the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East. Can they bounce back after a loss and beat their rival on the road? The Mets had a VERY long losing streak earlier this year. At one point, they had lost 12 in a row, and while they haven't really turned things around, they are coming off sweeping the Tigers. They have only won four straight games once this year, they could add to that tonight. But the big bad Yankees are 27-17 overall and 13-11 on the road.
However, they are slumping. The Yankees have won just one of their last five games overall and are 2-6 in their last eight. Lucky for them, Cam Schlittler takes the bump and should continue his phenomenal start to the season. From the other dugout, Clay Holmes gets the nod. We are backing the Yankees to win the first five innings. Now, unlike our Red Sox bet last night, we do not have push potential, but I don't think we will need it. Cam Schlittler has been absolutely shoving this season, ranking second in the MLB in both ERA and WHIP. But on the road, his splits become even more impressive. His 1.35 ERA drops to 0.98 in six away starts this year, and his 0.81 WHIP somehow decreases to 0.64. That is absolutely insane.
He has allowed zero earned runs in five of his nine starts, and has allowed just two in his last five outings. The man is shoving. While the Mets splits do improve at home and against RHP, I think it's time for them to come back down to Earth after three straight wins. As for Clay Holmes, he has also been pitching well. At home, his ERA drops below 1.50, and his WHIP to sub 1.00. However he has allowed multiple earned runs to the Cardinals, Dodgers and Diamondbacks this season, all of whom are playing great offensively.
Ultimately, trust Schlittler to have another start allowing zero runs, and all we need is the Yankees' bats to come alive early.
