The Mets and Yankees take on one another today in this season's second installment of the Subway Series. The Yankees host this two game series, but the Mets hosted the first series in the middle of June!
We're in for a real treat tonight as Justin Verlander and Domingo Germán face each other on the mound.
Verlander has already pitched against this Yankee lineup once this season, but Germán has yet to face the Mets batters.
Let's break down tonight's matchup!
Subway Series History
This is one of the biggest rivalries in baseball. The Subway Series, Battle for the Bronx, Battle in the Big Apple, whatever you choose to call it, this series is nationally known.
The history between this two teams is full of hatred for one another, making it an all-time rivalry.
These teams split two games at Citi Field, and tonight I think the Yankees have a slight advantage.
For one, they play in the toughest division in baseball, the AL East. The Yankees are 53-47 overall, but 31-23 at Yankee Stadium this year. They are at the bottom of the division, but still have plenty to play for.
The Mets are 46-53 and are 23-31 on the road. They have been slightly better at home, but regardless, it's been a character building season.
Will Verlander lead the Mets to victory? Or can the Yankees get a much needed win at home?

Subway Series Predictions & Best Bets
Verlander has given up just 6 Earned Runs in his last 5 starts. He struck out 7 against the Yankees in June, but he has only cleared 6+ Ks in one away start this year.
Germán gave up 5 runs in his last outing on the road against the Angels. He's allowed 8 Earned Runs and 14 Hits in 3 starts since his perfect game in Oakland.
Despite the studs on the mound, I do think we see some runs.
These teams combine for nearly 9 runs per game, and I think we see both pitchers get shelled early.
After being swept by the Angels, the Yankees are coming off a sweep of the Royals. They outscored KC 18-11 in three games, and the offense seemed to be clicking.
The Mets lost back to back games against the Red Sox, but still managed to put up 12 runs in 3 games.
I'll be betting on 9 runs with some push potential tonight.

They play tougher competition and they have more to play for this season.
The Mets are seeing their playoff hopes dwindle, while the Yankees can still compete for the AL Wild Card, and theoretically they can still win the division.
