Athletics vs Chicago White Sox: MLB Odds & Best Bets (4/16)

The unaffiliated Athletics are in the Windy City tonight taking on the Chicago White Sox in the second of a three game series. The bats came alive for the visitors last night as they were able to win the first matchup by a score of 12-3.

The Athletics started off the festivities early with a three run homer run from Tyler Soderstrom in the top of the 1st, which was answered by a three run shot from Andrew Vaughn in the bottom of the inning. But then things got out of hand. Our visitors scored one in the 2nd and one in the 3rd to take a two run lead. That was followed by four more in the 6th inning, including another Soderstrom three run bomb.

The Athletics didn't mind throwing some salt in the wound in the 9th, adding three more to win by nine runs. Will we see some heart from the Chicago bats tonight? Or will the Athletics repeat last night's dominating performance?

Backing the Athletics isn't the most appealing, but come on. We're fading the White Sox.

For starters, we have…*quickly counts because there's so many*… six Athletic hitters who have at least an above average matchup rating today against Cannon according to batters-box.com (Do NOT Forget the Hyphen). That includes four who have a great rating, one with an Elite matchup ISO, and one with an Elite fastball matchup.

Cannon had a decent outing at home in his first start, but in his last two on the road he's blown up. In just nine innings, he's allowed 10 hits, nine runs and six walks, plus he's allowed three total home runs. He's only got nine strikeouts to show for it, which I'll admit is alright, but not when you're allowing all those people on base. Cannon really struggles against lefties, and I think it will show against Soderstrom who might have himself another game.

Now, Bido is pitching for the visitors. None of Chicago's hitters have anything more than an average rating, and four of them have a poor matchup against Bido. He hasn't allowed more than two earned runs in a start this season, and has two incredible outings on the road. Bido has pitched 10 innings away from Sacramento this season, allowing just three runs on nine hits while striking out nine batters as well. The White Sox are the second lowest scoring offense in the MLB so far this season, and tonight I trust the visitors to win this game by at least two runs, just like last night.
