FIFA World Cup

The second quarterfinal of the World Cup kicks off today as Spain take on Belgium at SoFi Stadium.

As an American, I feel like I should be rooting for Spain after what Belgium did to the U.S. in the last round. Then I remembered the Americans simply didn't play well enough. On that night, it felt like just about anyone could have beaten them.

I think Belgium's tournament run comes to an end today. I also see a couple of player props with plenty of value.

Let's get into it.

Featured Plays

Lamine Yamal 2+ Shots on Target

I'm expecting a big performance from Lamine Yamal today.

He hasn't looked like his usual self for much of this tournament. Still, this feels like the perfect matchup for him to remind everyone why he's one of the brightest young stars in football.

I'm not sure if the injury he suffered before the World Cup is still affecting him. It could also be the workload that comes with playing so many matches at such a young age.

Either way, his talent is undeniable.

I'm also not putting too much stock into Belgium's win over the United States. I still believe they'll be outmatched against this Spain side.

Spain love to dominate possession and control the tempo. Belgium have willingly conceded possession throughout this tournament, and I expect that trend to continue today.

That should mean plenty of touches for Yamal in dangerous areas.

He is averaging nearly five shots per 90 minutes at this World Cup. He is also averaging 2.29 shots on target per match.

Belgium have been one of the more generous defenses when it comes to allowing shots and shots on target.

With Spain expected to dictate play, I like Yamal's chances of testing the goalkeeper multiple times.

Play: Lamine Yamal 2+ Shots on Target (+100)

Mikel Oyarzabal Anytime Goalscorer

Mikel Oyarzabal has been Spain's top goal scorer so far this tournament - Portugal Spain Picks

Mikel Oyarzabal has been Spain's top goal scorer so far this tournament.

Much like my Yamal play, this comes down to Spain's overall matchup advantage.

I simply think Spain have too much quality for Belgium to handle. Oyarzabal has consistently found dangerous scoring opportunities in every match.

If you believe in patterns, here's a fun one.

This isn't why I'm making the bet, but it's too good not to mention.

Oyarzabal didn't score in Spain's opener. Oyarzabal didn't score in Spain's opener before responding with two goals

against Saudi Arabia. He was then held off the scoresheet against Uruguay but bounced back with another brace against

Austria. After going scoreless against Portugal in the last round… naturally that means two goals today, right?

Alright, enough superstition. Let's get back to the numbers!

Oyarzabal is averaging 4.38 shots per 90 minutes and 2.08 shots on target per match in this tournament. He is also averaging 0.92 goals per 90 minutes.

Even though he has scored in only two of Spain's five matches, those underlying numbers remain elite.

Belgium have struggled against opposing strikers throughout the tournament. I expect Oyarzabal to create several quality chances against their center backs.

If Spain produce the attacking performance I expect, there's a strong chance Oyarzabal is on the scoresheet.

Play: Mikel Oyarzabal Anytime Goalscorer (+120)
