Cristiano Ronaldo is playing in his final World Cup this summer. Can he end his international career by winning the Golden Boot Award? Golden Boot Picks

FIFA World Cup

The 2026 FIFA World Cup begins this week, so to wrap up our futures portfolio, we have to discuss the Golden Boot! This award is given to the top goalscorer of the tournament. Past winners include Kylian Mbappe of France in 2022 with eight goals, Harry Kane of England in 2018 with six, and James Rodriguez of Colombia in 2014, also with six goals. It doesn't take much, but with an extended field and some weaker group stage matches, there could be some high scoring affairs early on, leading to more goals from the studs. Let's get into our favorite Golden Boot picks for this year's tournament.

Odds to Win 2026 Golden Boot

  • Kylian Mbappe (France) +600
  • Harry Kane (England) +700
  • Mikel Oyarzabal (Spain) +1100
  • Erling Haaland (Norway) +1400
  • Lionel Messi (Argentina) +1600
  • Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) +2000
  • Julian Alvarez (Argentina) +2200
  • Lamine Yamal (Spain) +2200
  • Vini Jr. (Brazil) +2200
  • Raphinha (Brazil) +2500
  • Ousmane Dembele (France) +3000
  • Lautaro Martinez (Argentina) +3300

Those are the top 12 players listed to be the 2026 FIFA World Cup's top goalscorer. But there could be some value deeper on the board. Here is my personal check list when it comes to betting this market.

  1. A player's team must be a threat for a deep run
  2. They must be the clear stud on the roster. No room for goals to be vultured.
  3. Hopefully they are the penalty kick taker

When looking at players to score tons of goals, we obviously need them to play more games than the average side. Which is why Haaland worries me a bit. Sure, he is the go-to guy for his country, but in a group with France and Senegal, the entire team might be held scoreless in those matches.

I need my Golden Boot pick to be THE GUY on the roster. Teams with multiple goal scorers like Brazil, France and Spain worry me a bit, as these squads have tons of attacking firepower.

Lastly, it's beneficial to bet on the PK taker. Knowing who is going to step up if they (or their teammate) goes down in the box is huge, and could make or break your bet. Two of Mbappe's eight goals came from the spot, which was the difference maker over Messi in 2022.

2026 FIFA World Cup Golden Boot Picks and Predictions

Harry Kane is the all time leading scorer for England. Can he lead them to a World Cup victory? Golden Boot Picks

Harry Kane is the all time leading scorer for England. Can he lead them to a World Cup victory?

Here are my top picks this year for the Golden Boot award.

  • Harry Kane (England) +700)
  • Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) +2000
  • Ousmane Dembele (France) +3000

Let's discuss each pick.

Golden Boot Analysis

Harry Kane is there for the chalk. He is the clear target on England, he takes the penalties, and this is a team that could potentially go all the way. Now of course, the English like to play conservative, defensive soccer, but in the later rounds they will need to score to move on. Plus in a group with Croatia, Ghana and Panama, Kane could have at least 3-4 goals before the knockout rounds even begin.

Next up is Cristiano Ronaldo, better known as "Penaldo". The nickname alone speaks for itself, but I also think the Portuguese will be extra aggressive on offense. Yes, they have plenty of talent in the midfield, but when it comes to scoring goals, they all look towards No. 7. When he's on the pitch, the offense revolves around getting Ronaldo his looks in the final third. Plus, they are in a group with DR Congo and Uzbekistan, where Portugal could easily net 5-6 of their own. At over 20-1, this is probably the last chance he has at winning this award, or a World Cup. Expect some extra fire.

Lastly we have Ousmane Dembele, who does break a couple of my own rules. He is not the main PK taker for France (Mbappe), but could step up if Mbappe is off the pitch. France also has a very talented attack, which could be grounds for him not netting as many. However the French should make a run, possibly all the way back to their third straight World Cup Final, and 30-1 is a good price for this longshot.

One More Sneaky Pick

My other favorite would be Mikel Oyarzabel from Spain, but just a week ago he was priced greater than 16-1, almost 20-1 at some books. At 11-1, I think the value is gone, but here's the elevator pitch. Lamine Yamal is likely out for at least two, possibly all three group stage games for Spain. Enter Mikel Oyarzabel, who is already the PK taker and scored 15 goals this La Liga season, and had six in six matches for Spain in the World Cup Qualifiers. He will be the go-to scorer while Yamal becomes healthy.
