Let's get ready to rumble down in Raleigh for Game 4 of this Eastern Conference Semifinal series between the Washington Capitals and the Carolina Hurricanes. Tonight's hosts are up 2-1 with a chance to extend their series lead at home before heading back to the nation's capital for Game 5.

The Canes took Game 1 on the road in a very low scoring affair. We were tied at one heading into OT, when Jacob Slavin ended things just three minutes into the extra period. However, the Capitals battled back in Game 2 to even things up. After a scoreless first, Washington found itself up 1-0 after the second and 2-0 early in the third. Eventually the Canes got back within one, but Tom Wilson found an empty netter to seal the victory.

Heading to Carolina for Game 3, the Hurricanes absolutely dominated. Not only did they shutout the Capitals, 4-0, they outshot them, scored on both of their power plays, and killed both of their penalties. It was very one-sided as the hosts gained a 2-1 series lead. Will they come out hot on their home ice tonight? Or will the Capitals rally to tie things up before heading back to D.C?

Carolina has dominated this series. Let me explain. They've outshot the Capitals in every single game, by an average of 11 shots on goal per contest. Not only that, but they've forced Washington to block an incredible amount of attempts per game as well, roughly 30.7 per night.

The Canes are already putting up 29.7 SOGs per game, but mix in another 30+ attempts that get blocked, not to mention anything wide of the net, and Carolina is probably ripping the puck close to 70-75 times a game. Good things happen when you put the puck on net, and Logan Thompson can only do so much. He needs help from the Capitals defense, and he's really not getting it.

Back the hosts to win by two tonight. They are 3/8 on the power play this series, including 2/2 at home, while Washington is just 1/7. As I stated above already, the Canes have put a lot more pressure on Thompson than the Caps are to the Carolina tenders. We know the Canes are one of the best teams at home and have been all season long, and I simply don't see the Capitals making the proper adjustments on either side of the puck.

The offense needs to shoot a whole lot more, but that's pretty hard to do when you have to defend 75 shot attempts a night. Carolina is simply better equipped for playoff hockey, and it's shown on the ice every single night. Sure it took OT on the road in Game 1, but they were right there in Game 2, and shutout the Caps at home in Game 3.

Tonight in Game 4, I see the Hurricanes not letting their visitors back into this series, forcing them to defend their season at home on Thursday Night. Give me Carolina by two goals, and I don't think we will need an empty netter to get there.
