Tuesday was a disaster on ice. Only two games had over 6 goals and most of the 11 game slate went under 5 goals and were all around low event hockey. However, our NHL best bets piece still was profitable, going 2-1. Tonight the teams should be over their Halloween party hangovers and ready to lock in before the weekend. We are officially in the green both in units gained and our season record. The pressure is on, as we sit at 12-10 with our NHL best bets. We need to keep the bankroll building tonight and build on the momentum we've gained after a spooky start.
Halloween is two days away and the NHL is treating us to a eleven-game slate with no shortage of angles to attack. Tonight's card is built around three players whose current roles and recent form are being dramatically underpriced by the market — a homecoming story, a power play takeover, and a role promotion that the books haven't caught up to yet. Three plays, three plus-or-near-even money prices, and three very clear reasons why. Let's get into it.
So let's weave through the slate to find value on these NHL best bets. And don't forget, it's not too late to lock in NHL awards. So make sure to check out some of my favorite award picks, covering the Norris Trophy, the top goalie in the league and the Calder for the top rookie.
We will be breaking down NHL best bets here at Betting News all season long! Each article will look for VALUE, as in straights you can take to build up your bankroll or pieces you can use to beef up your parlays. All bets will be -135 or better odds. And while we will focus on NHL player props, there are times we will take sides and totals. So keep your eyes peeled here as we will drop these throughout the week.
And if you haven't already, be sure to check out some of my favorite futures and awards. So time to lace them up and get ready to ride with Betzky for my favorite NHL best bets of the day.

Vincent Trocheck of the Utah Mammoth has been a great add at center.
You don't need to manufacture motivation when you're playing your hometown team — it's already there the moment the schedule comes out. Trocheck grew up in Pittsburgh, and every time he gets to suit up against the Penguins there's an extra edge to his game that goes beyond the standard professional competitiveness. Revenge angels aren't always real, but this one can be seen in the data and it's why it's one of the NHL best bets tonight.
The Utah side of this equation is just as compelling. Trocheck is centering the second line alongside Cooley and Guenther, and that trio has been quietly one of the more dangerous units in the league when they're on the road — away from home they open up, play with pace, and create off the rush in a way that suits all three of their games. Pittsburgh has been generous defensively this season and Utah is a 54.1% favorite tonight, meaning the market expects the Mammoth to control this game. When Utah is controlling the game, Trocheck's line gets favorable zone starts and matchups. Getting plus money on a player with home-state motivation, a hot supporting cast, and a favorable team context is precisely the kind of edge that makes a card profitable over time. Take the +100 and let Trocheck do the rest.

Four games. Four points. Three straight power play points. D'Astous hasn't just gotten hot — he's seized a role that the Tampa coaching staff has now fully committed to, and that role on the top power play unit is where NHL points are manufactured most efficiently. Three consecutive PP points isn't luck; it's a player who has figured out his spot on the man advantage and is being trusted to operate there every single night.
Tonight's matchup is the cherry on top. Winnipeg just absorbed a 5-1 beating from Florida on Tuesday and comes into Tampa looking like a team that has lost the thread entirely. Tampa Bay is a massive 65.9% home favorite, which means this game is expected to be lopsided — and lopsided games mean power play opportunities for the dominant team, which means D'Astous is going to be out there on the man advantage with chances to extend his streak. A four-game point streak doesn't stop itself, especially when the player riding it has been handed the keys to the most efficient point-scoring scenario in hockey. The -105 price is essentially even money on a player in the form of his life against a cracking Winnipeg team. It's a straightforward play.

Red Wings forwards Alex DeBrincat and Dylan Larkin celebrate after scoring a goal.
This is the play of the night. The books have not adjusted for what Finnie actually is right now, and the +100 price on a player operating as Detroit's top center is one of the cleanest role-versus-price mismatches on the board this season.
Larkin is out — for whatever reason, whether it's injury or something more complicated on the trade front — and Finnie has stepped into that void and run with it. A point in four of his last five games as the top-line center is not a sample size you can dismiss. That's a player who has risen to the moment, found his game, and is being trusted by the Detroit coaching staff with the most important minutes on the roster. And tonight he gets Chicago, who allow the third-most goals against in the entire league. The Blackhawks are not a team that is going to clamp down on an in-form center getting premium ice time and power play looks. Finnie is going to be out there in all the important spots — even strength, power play, late-and-close — against a defense that has been one of the most accommodating in the NHL.
Plus money on a player in this role, in this form, against this opponent is the definition of a market inefficiency. No wonder why it's an NHL Best Bet. The books are still pricing him like a depth piece. He's not a depth piece right now. He's Detroit's top center, he's produced in four of five, and he's playing the third-worst defensive team in the league. This is the bet of the night — don't miss it at +100
