All fans of the Big Ten will have their eyes on Mackey Arena for a top 15 showdown between Michigan State and Purdue, but the conference never rests! We get a top 10 matchup between No. 3 Michigan and No. 10 Illinois at the State Farm Center on Friday night, which will hopefully be just as exciting (if not more) than Thursday's contest. This should be a thrilling game as Dusty May and Brad Underwood's teams both look to end up on that top seed line for Selection Sunday. Let's dive into our favorite picks in this contest.

#3 Michigan Wolverines vs. #10 Illinois Fighting Illini NCAA Basketball Insights

Elliot Cadeau and the Wolverines take on the Illini at the State Farm Center
As it currently stands, Michigan is comfortably a one seed, while the Illini are listed as a two. However, things could certainly flip down the stretch if the hosts can pull off this upset in Champaign. Plus, depending on how the Big Ten tournament ends up, they could face off again at the United Center, likely in the conference championship based on current seedings.
However, it's a big one on Friday night. Michigan lost to Duke last weekend but handled business against Minnesota during the week, but they did not cover the spread. As for the Illini, they have had a full six days off since coming back from Los Angeles after splitting games out west. They destroyed the Trojans of USC, winning 101-65, but followed it up with an overtime loss to UCLA on a last second layup by Donovan Dent. In that game, the Illini led by 23 after just ten minutes of play, and were still up seven at halftime before losing outright. Will they use their extra days of rest to their advantage on Friday night?

#3 Michigan vs. #10 Illinois NCAA Basketball Picks and Predictions

Kylan Boswell is back on the floor for the Illini, immediately boosting their defensive presence
Michigan vs. Illinois Prediction: Illinois Wins Outright, Over 156.5
Best Bet: Michigan/Illinois Over 156.5 (-115) Lucky Rebel Sportsbook
I snagged the over 155.5 before it ticked up, and that looks to be the direction this line is moving. There are even some 157.5s out there at the time of writing, and I have a feeling people will wake up on Friday morning and press that button, and for good reason. Both offenses are crazy efficient, and I expect there to be some zip in this game.
Michigan is a top 15 team in terms of possessions per game, and still average over 71 trips up and down the floor on the road this season. Defensively, they are very sound, but the Illini have multiple scoring options to combat their size. Illinois only averages around 65.5 possessions per game, but they see an uptick at the State Farm Center this year. Plus, they struggle to force turnovers, which means the Wolverines should be able to get a good look (quickly) each time down the court. The Illini also chuck up a bunch of threes, ranking top 10 in the nation in 3P Rate. While the Wolverines do have a solid perimeter defense, Illinois shoots over 36% from downtown on their home floor.
Lastly, given the extra days of rest Illinois has had, it wouldn't surprise me if they try to turn this into a shootout. Brad Underwood will test the legs of the visitors and see if they can keep up for a full 40 minutes against a team that is ready to run.
