Pickings are slim are on the college basketball betting board tonight, with only five games between Division I teams on the schedule. But the standout game on the slate is certainly one to follow, as rivals Iowa and Iowa State will meet at Hilton Coliseum in Ames (7:30 pm ET, ESPNU).
The Hawkeyes (5-3) are coming off of an 87-68 loss in their Big Ten opener at Purdue on Monday. They fell into a hole in the first half and were unable to get back into the game, as they became the latest team to be on the wrong end of a big game by Zach Edey, who had 25 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks against the Hawkeyes.
As for the Cyclones (6-2), after dropping their final two games at the ESPN Events Invitational to finish fifth in the event, they got back into the win column last Friday with a 99-80 win at DePaul.

Home Team Dominance Likely to Continue
As with the college football rivalry between these two Hawkeye State schools, the school from Iowa City has had the upper hand in the college basketball rivalry as of late, winning four of the last five contests.
However, three of those four wins have come at Carver-Hawkeye Arena, where they have won four straight games against the Cyclones.
That home dominance extends to Iowa State as well, and it’s even more pronounced on their end. The Cyclones have won nine of their last ten home games against the Hawkeyes, with the lone blemish being their 16-point defeat in 2019.
Most of those wins, as well as most games between the Hawkeyes and Cyclones, have not had a narrow margin of victory. Over the last 20 matchups between Iowa and Iowa State, 15 have been decided by eight or more points, including six of the Cyclones’ last nine wins in Ames.
Iowa vs Iowa State Prediction and Picks
Prediction: Iowa State to win
Picks: Iowa State -7.5 & Keshon Gilbert over 3.5 assists
I’m going to ride with the recent trends in this rivalry and take the Cyclones to win and cover tonight at home.
In addition, I like the value with the over on Gilbert’s assists total, which comes in at +134 at BetOnline. In each of his last three games, the UNLV transfer has recorded four or more assists, dropping seven dimes apiece against DePaul and Texas A&M and four against Virginia Tech.
If he continues to put up solid assist numbers, that total is going to go p pup, so get on it while it is low.
