The Chicago White Sox are still trying to find some winning consistency this season as they look to catch up with the Minnesota Twins in the AL Central. But a road sweep of the Detroit Tigers would be a good place to potentially start.

The reigning AL Central champions have taken the first two games of their series in Detroit, winning 9-5 on Monday and 5-1 last night. With a win in the series finale this afternoon, they will pick up just their second three or four-game series sweep of the season.

As it is, securing the series win already is a positive step for the visitors, who had only one of their previous six series entering this series. But a road sweep of a division foe could serve as a boost for Chicago heading into back-to-back series against the Houston Astors (away) and Toronto Blue Jays (home), two other AL pennant contenders.

Can Stingy Faedo Shut Down Chicago's Surging Bats?

The White Sox were expected to have one of the best offenses in baseball, but between injuries, inconsistency, and outright underperformance overall, that hasn't been the case.

Entering today's game, the South Siders are averaging just a shade over four runs per game, which ranks as one of the lower averages in the league.

But things have been picking up lately, even when results haven't necessarily done so. Over their last six games, Chicago has scored at least five runs in each game and have tallied 46 runs in this stretch. And they have been doing it without Tim Anderson, who hasn't played since May 29 due to injury.

But after putting up 14 runs and 27 hits in the first two games of this series, the South Siders might find the going a little tougher against Faedo. The 26-year-old has not allowed more than two runs in any of his starts thus far, and he has allowed more than five hits just twice.

Faedo is going to need more of the same to help the Tigers avoid the sweep, given that he is unlikely to have many runs to play with. The Tigers have to score more than four runs in any of his starts, and they have maxed out at three runs in his four starts at Comerica Park. As a result, he was winless at home until his most recent home start against the Philadelphia Phillies on

Scoring runs has not been a point of strength for the Tigers this season overall though, both at home and on the road. They are last in the league in runs per game (2.75), second to last in runs per game at home (3.17), and last in runs per game on the road (2.19).

Chicago White Sox vs. Detroit Tigers Prediction and Best Bets

White Sox vs. Tigers Prediction: White Sox to win

White Sox vs. Tigers Best Bets: White Sox ML (-116 at BetOnline) & White Sox -1.5 (+140 at BetUS)

Vince Velasquez has not been particularly impressive this season, but he just needs to eat up some innings and avoid giving up too many runs in the process. Given how poor the Tigers have been in the scoring department, this is as good of an opportunity to have his best start of the season.

The White Sox have disappointed and underwhelmed on a number of occasions this season, but they are worth backing here to take the sweep in Detroit.

For some added value, backing the visitors to cover the -1.5 run line is also an excellent option. Of Detroit's 37 losses this season, 30 (81 percent) have come by 2+ runs, and on the other side, 20 of Chicago's 29 wins this season (69 percent) have been by 2+ runs.
