White Sox vs Guardians Prediction & Best Bets (May 23): Cleveland Adds to Chicago’s Road Woes
Tue May 23 2023

Tuesday, May 23’s MLB schedule features the second meeting of a three-game series between the Chicago White Sox and Cleveland Guardians. Both teams are currently below .500 and could use the win to make up ground in the AL Central, making tonight’s White Sox vs Guardians matchup an important one.
Monday’s meeting between these division rivals didn’t feature much offense, ending in seven total hits and a 3-0 victory for the Guardians. Cleveland starting pitcher Hunter Gaddis was solid through six scoreless innings, only giving up one walk and two hits while striking out four batters. The win also helped Pedro Grifol’s club move 3.5 games back of first place in the AL Central.
Can the White Sox exact revenge at Progressive Field this evening? Or will the Guardians clinch a series win with another home victory?
Here’s a look at everything you know heading into tonight’s Twins vs Dodgers showdown, from the latest betting odds to a prediction with the best betting recommendation, courtesy of Betting News.

White Sox vs Guardians Game Preview
If the White Sox want to exact revenge for last night’s outcome, they’ll need their bats to wake up. Unfortunately, that might be easier said than done seeing as they’re averaging just 3.3 runs over their last five outings.
It’s going to be hard for the White Sox to generate runs if Guardians starting pitcher Logan Allen continues to pitch well. The 24-year-old rookie hurler is 1-1 through his first five MLB starts, pitching to a 3.04 ERA while striking out 9.8 batters per nine innings pitched.
Allen is also no stranger to facing Chicago. It was just last week that he pitched 5 2/3 innings against the White Sox, allowing one run on seven hits while striking out five batters in a 3-1 victory for the Guardians.
While some may see that victory as a fluke, the truth is that the White Sox simply don't perform well against lefties. They’re 2-7 straight up with 78 hits (No. 30) against southpaws this season.
The Guardians hope that their own starter, Dylan Cease, can match Allen on the mound. Although Cease opened the 2023 campaign by winning his first three starts, he hasn’t found as much since then, going 0-3 with a 6.19 ERA in his subsequent seven appearances.
Cease’s latest showing was in the aforementioned 3-1 victory last week. Although he only allowed five hits over 6 1/3 innings, he did surrender three runs and a homer. Needless to say, a bounce-back performance is needed.
That might be easier said considering that Progressive Field hasn’t been welcoming to Cease. The former 2014 sixth-rounder has a 5.65 ERA in six previous trips to Cleveland, where he gives up 10.8 hits per nine innings, too.
On top of all of the above, it’s also hard to trust the White Sox when they’ve been dreadful as the away team. They’ve been the loser in 13 of their last 16 road games and have only scored four total runs in their latest three away contests.
On the flip side, the Guardians are on a three-game winning streak at Progressive Field, outscoring those opponents 15-9 on aggregate. With the way these AL Central rivals have been playing, it looks like it’ll be an uphill battle for the visitors.
White Sox vs Guardians Game Prediction and Picks
White Sox vs Guardians Prediction: Guardians 5, White Sox 2
White Sox vs Guardians: Guardians ML (Best Value: -126 at FanDuel) & Under 8 Total Runs (Best Value: -104 at FanDuel)
After the White Sox were held scoreless last night, I’m going with the Guardians winning once again. Cleveland has been playing well at home while Allen has been phenomenal on the mound. With Chicago struggling on the road and against lefties, it’s clear that this is the home team’s game to lose.
I’m also taking the under on the 8-run total as one of the best bets. Again, Allen has pitched well while Cease is due for a rebound performance. The under is also 5-0 in Chicago’s last five games as well as 10-3 in Cleveland’s previous 13 at home.
With the last seven White Sox vs Guardians matchups at Progressive Field averaging 5.3 total runs, backing the projected total’s under is the right call.
