It has been a very frustrating season for the Boston Red Sox, but they came to play yesterday in Baltimore, tallying a season-high 17 runs as they routed the Baltimore Orioles.
The big win ended a four-game losing streak that featured three one-run losses, and it hurt the Orioles in their quest for an AL wild-card spot.
Boston's big win was keyed by Rafael Devers, who had three of their 21 hits and hit a tone-setting grand slam off of Jordan Lyles in the first inning.
With the Seattle Mariners defeating the Atlanta Braves last night, the O's are now five games back of the M's for the final AL wild-card spot with just 23 regular season games remaining for both teams.
So, this afternoon's series finale at Oriole Park is a big, must-win game for the home team, whose playoff chances have taken a real hit with five losses in their past seven games. At BetOnline, they now sit at +1040 to make the playoffs and -2500 to miss out.

The Sox, meanwhile, have not thrived as an underdog, going 26-45 (.366) overall.
