Rangers vs Mariners Game Preview

The Rangers are well on their way to winning the AL West, only needing two wins to clinch the division crown. Meanwhile, the Mariners currently trail the Astros by 1.5 games for the final AL wild-card spot, highlighting the importance of victory for tonight.

Unfortunately for the home team, this year's Rangers vs. Mariners season series hasn't gone in the Mariners' favor, whatsoever.

Texas emerged victorious in eight of its nine meetings with Seattle so far in 2023. Even worse is that the Mariners have lost seven straight games to the Rangers, being outscored by an average of 4.0 runs along the way.

Making matters worse is that the Mariners aren't in a good spot at the moment. They've dropped five of their six previous games ahead of tonight's encounter, scoring an average of just 3.8 runs along the way.

The Mariners also need RHP Logan Gilbert to be better than he has been if they want to end their struggles. The 26-year-old righty hasn't been his usual self, going 1-2 with a 5.09 ERA in his last four appearances.

Furthermore, Gilbert hasn't had any luck against the Rangers this season. In two previous matchups since April, the Winter Park, FL native is 0-2 against Texas. It doesn't help that his Seattle teammates only provided him with one run in those contests.

On the other hand, Jordan Montgomery has looked great on Texas' mound. The Rangers' Southpaw has allowed just one run over 21 innings in his last three starts, pitching to a 0.43 ERA while racking up 17 strikeouts.

Montgomery also recently faced Seattle on Sept. 23, striking out six batters over seven scoreless innings as the Rangers went on to win 2-0 at Globe Life Field.

With how the season series has gone thus far, I don't see the Rangers losing to the Mariners. Seattle just hasn't been scoring runs lately and that won't change with how Montgomery has been wheeling and dealing on the mound.

Expect the Rangers to take one step closer to locking down the division.

As for a Rangers vs. Mariners player prop, let's go with Marcus Semien recording a home run.

The Texas infielder has been heating up at the right time, batting .306 with five home runs in his last nine games. He has a quartet of HRs in his last four games, which includes when he recorded two round-trippers vs. the Mariners on Sept. 24.

With Gilbert allowing 13 HRs in his last 10 starts, I love Semien as a candidate to hit a homer tonight.
