Padres vs. Dodgers (August 7): Darvish and Anderson Meet With 10+ Wins Each

Nicholas Plowfield

Two of the best teams in the National League meet for their final game in a 3-game set. The Dodgers and Padres have provided plenty of storylines throughout the middle of the season, but this series really hasn’t been one of them.

The series has been lopsided so far, with the Dodgers winning the first two games by a combined score of 16-4. The Padres have not gotten the numbers they need from starting pitching during their 3 game road skid.

The Dodgers have 7 straight wins, and they could notch an 8th tonight if Tyler Anderson is in true form. Anderson, with a 12-1 record, isn’t even the best pitcher on the staff, but he has done more than enough to earn an Ace title.

According to FanDuel, the Dodgers are favorites again tonight on SunDay Night Baseball. With their win streak intact, and another game at Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles will be tough to beat. San Diego counters with, arguably, their best pitcher this season, Yu Darvish.

Los Angeles Impressive Pitching Numbers

The Dodgers have one of the best pitching staffs in baseball. They lead the league in team ERA and WHIP. Their ERA of 2.90 is impressive, and competitors are seeing the results by not producing many runs against the team.

Los Angeles is allowing just 3.2 runs per game. Compare that to their offensive output that is putting up 5.3 runs per game and there is not a lot of room for error on the other side.

Tyler Anderson will get the start tonight, and there isn’t much more we can say other than he has been dominant and almost untouchable. Even though his strikeout totals aren’t as high, he is pitching to weak contact, and his WHIP is a respectable 1.03.

However, don’t just bet the Dodgers this weekend before looking at the pitching on the other side. The Padres send Yu Darvish to the hill and he has had a great season. He won his last time out to push his win total to double-digits.

Darvish has more of. a touch for strikeouts, as he has whiffed 127 batters in just 128.1 innings this season. The strikeout totals have also lowered his WHIP to an impressive 0.99.

The two pitchers will be putting on a show in front of the Dodger faithful Sunday night. Runs will be hard to come by, and the game should move along at a rapid pace.

Padres vs. Dodgers Prediction and Best Bets

Padres vs. Dodgers Prediction: Dodgers to win

Padres vs. Dodgers Best Bets: Dodgers ML (-136 at FanDuel)

It will be a close game tonight, but the Dodgers have a slight edge with their solid pitching. Tyler Anderson has been hot, and he hasn’t lost a game since June 27 against Colorado.

Yu Darvish will have a good night, but if he can’t get run support off of the Dodger pitching, he will struggle to find the win column.
