Padres vs. Dodgers: The National League West is officially deadlocked after San Diego's 2-1 win over Los Angeles last night. Can the Dodgers respond, or will the Padres take control of the division? Let's dive into my best bet between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres.

The Dodgers are in need of a win, and having Tyler Glasnow take the bump is the right man for the job. This season, he's posted a 3.12 ERA with a 3.42 xFIP, a .232 BABIP, and a 47% ground-ball rate. His numbers have been stellar all year and held up just last week when he faced this same Padres team, tossing five innings of two-run ball on six hits while striking out eight.
Normally I'd hesitate to back a pitcher in consecutive starts against the same opponent, but Glasnow's underlying metrics show no signs of regression. More importantly, this is a great spot to fade the opposing pitcher.
Dodgers vs. Cortes
Southpaw Nestor Cortes is set to make his sixth start of the season—and it's been nothing short of brutal. Through just 23 innings, he's carrying a 5.87 ERA, 5.80 xFIP, and 1.65 WHIP, while issuing nearly six walks per nine innings and surrendering three-and-a-half home runs per nine. Those numbers are deplorable.
Meanwhile, Los Angeles ranks sixth in wRC+ (123) against lefties over the past month, with a .346 wOBA to back it up. This lineup is built to punish pitchers like Cortes, and at the price of -127, backing the Dodgers feels like a bargain.
