While the Mariners remain in a strong position to break their long MLB playoff drought, they are staring at a potentially damaging sweep at the hands of the Los Angeles Angels today.

The Angels don't have much to play for other than pride and potential achievement bonuses, but they swept the Toronto Blue Jays on the road last month and are now eyeing a four-game sweep of the Mariners today at Angel Stadium.

After the Baltimore Orioles rallied in the ninth to beat the Toronto Blue Jays yesterday, the Mariners are only four games ahead of the Orioles for the final AL wild-card spot with 17 games left for both teams. The Chicago White Sox are five games back of Seattle, but they have only 15 games remaining.

Unless Baltimore gets blazing hot down the stretch, which won't be easy to do with the Astros, Yankees, and Blue Jays all on their schedule, Seattle will need to lose a lot of games down the stretch to be caught.

Still, with the Orioles opening a series at home against the 55-91 Detroit Tigers tonight, Seattle needs to salvage something from their trip to Anaheim. Will they?

Gilbert has pitched very well recently, going 2-1 with a 1.16 ERA in his last four starts. He also been better in road games (7-1, 2.95 ERA in 16 starts vs. 5-5, 3.48 ERA in 13 starts) and has a lower ERA in daytime starts (2.96 ERA in 13 starts vs. 3.36 ERA in 16 starts).

But Suarez is on a good run as well, going 5-3 with a 2.14 ERA in his last eight starts. In that span, his ERA has dropped from 5.60 to 3.84, and he is 3-1 with a 1.93 ERA in four home starts.

The Mariners have been swept only three times thus far this season, two coming at the hands of the Houston Astros. So, there's a lot of value in backing Seattle here if you're so inclined to.

However, I like the value here with the Angels and Suarez to complete the sweep. I also like the under here, as I like both starters to go deep into the game and pitch well.
