World Cup

The Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets currently hold the top two seeds for the National League playoff bracket. The Dodgers are on a 3-game win streak, but the Mets have dropped 5 of 10, including their last 2 games.

The Dodgers are the first team to register 90 wins after 7th inning single by Gavin Lux put Los Angeles ahead 4-3 yesterday. Their bullpen held on, and the team picked up their 3rd straight road win.

Tonight, two solid pitchers will be on the mound, as Los Angeles sends Tyler Anderson out, and New York goes with Jacob deGrom. According to FanDuel, the Mets have a slight edge with deGrom.

Jacob deGrom’s Strong Return

Jacob deGrom has been lights out since his return from injury. He has given the Mets another weapon in the rotation for a team that has the 5th best team ERA in baseball.

deGrom has a 3-1 record in 5 starts this season, but in his one loss, he still pitched well and only allowed 5 hits and 3 runs. He has managed 5+ inning in each start during the regular season, and his ERA is just about as low as it gets at 2.15.

His last start on August 25th against Colorado was exceptional. He made it through 6 innings, only allowing 1 run and 3 hits. He also struck out 9 and only walked 1 batter.

He will have a tougher test tonight, as he will face the top offense in baseball. The Dodgers have every #1 spot except for home runs and stolen bases. However, they still rank in the Top 5 for home runs and Top 10 in stolen bases.

It could very well come down to the bullpen on Wednesday, as both pitchers are expected to go deep into the game. It may also come down to baserunners, and deGrom holds a strong edge in that category. His WHIP is 0.55, while Anderson’s is 1.02.

Both are strong numbers, but deGrom has only walked 2 batters in his 5 starts. Free runners will be costly in this matchup, so expect more strikeouts and balls in play as the pitchers both try to paint the corners of the strike zone.

Los Angeles Dodgers vs. New York Mets Prediction and Picks

Dodgers vs. Mets Prediction: Dodgers to win

Dodgers vs. Mets Picks: Dodgers ML (+140 at Caesars Sportsbook)

Here is the kicker…deGrom is 0-4 in 10 starts against the Dodgers in his career. That doesn’t mean he will get another loss tonight, but it does show that Los Angeles is loaded with talent and that they have the best record in baseball for a reason.

I expect the bullpens to get the decisions in this game, and it could come down to a mistake that costs one team the game. The two best teams in the National League could be putting on a preview of the NLCS later this year, so watch out.

The Dodgers have the edge if they can get into the bullpen early. They will need to get deGrom off the hill prior to the 7th inning if they want a chance. Good thing they have the best offense in baseball.
