Nathan Eovaldi has been scratched and will not start tonight in Texas
Texas has won both games of this series so far, and they lead the regular season series 4-1 overall. This is the final contest of the season between these two teams, so the Rangers have already locked the regular season win, but can the Tigers come back and avoid the sweep?
Friday Night, the Rangers shutout their visitors, beating Detroit 2-0. Yesterday, the Tigers offense didn't show up either, losing again, 4-1. But now we have Tarik Skubal back on the bump for the first time since starting in Tuesday's All Star Game. Can the lefty get his team back into the win column in this second half of the season?

Pitching Matchup
Detroit Tigers: Tarik Skubal (10-3, 2.23 ERA, 0.83 WHIP)
Texas Rangers: Jacob Latz (1-0, 3.00 ERA, 1.21 WHIP)
Skubal has been phenomenal this season. He ranks No. 3 in ERA, Wins, and Strikeouts, and leads the MLB in WHIP. While it would have been an exciting matchup with him facing Nathan Eovaldi, the Rangers' starter has been scratched due to tightness in his back. Reports are saying that Jacob Latz is slated to start in his place.
Texas has won three straight and five of their last six, and they didn't seem to lose any momentum over the break. As for the Tigers, their losing streak is up to six games dating back before the break, so the AL Central leaders will certainly want to turn things around.
The Rangers significantly struggle against lefties this season. Their .231 average drops to .226 at home and all the way down to .218 against LHP. Now, they have been hitting .259 as a team in the month of July, but I trust Skubal to shove in his first start after the break.
The Tigers desperately need a win. Their lead in the AL Central is almost down to single digit games, and ending this losing streak has to be a top priority. Despite Detroit hitting just .214 as a team during this month, they hit righties just as well as they do overall, including hitting away from home.
Ultimately, this just feels like a great bounce back spot for the Tigers. Win tonight, go play three more against the Pirates in Pittsburgh, then you get to go home for an extended break. Finish this series strong, avoid the sweep, and let Skubal shove with proper run support. The Tigers have only been swept twice this season, and they've avoided the sweep on the final game of the series two other times as well.
Give me Detroit to find a way to win this matchup by two.
