Cardinals vs. Brewers (September 28): Milwaukee in must-win mode for final contest with Central champion Cards cover

mlb

Last night, the New York Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals became the fourth and fifth teams to clinch division titles, leaving the NL East, which is now tied, as the only division yet to be decided.

However, there's plenty left to be decided with the wild-card spots in both the American League and National League. And with the NL Central title now locked up, the Cardinals can play their part in the NL wild card race tonight as they wrap up their season series against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Last night's 6-2 loss to St. Louis counts as another missed opportunity, but thanks to a little help from the Chicago Cubs, the Brew Crew is still 1.5 games back of the Philadelphia Phillies for the final NL wild-card spot.

But with every passing game, the margin for error gets smaller, and Milwaukee cannot afford to lose both games of this midweek rivalry matchup, even if the Cubs manage to help them out again tonight.

Cardinals vs. Brewers Best Bets: Brewers ML (Best Value: -143 at BetUS) & Cardinals/Brewers under 7 (Best Value: +104 at BetUS)

Both Quintana and Woodruff are pitching very well entering tonight's Cardinals vs. Brewers matchup.

In four starts this month, Quintana is 2-0 with a 0.71 ERA. St. Louis has a rather formidable record with him on the mound, as they are 9-1 in the 10 games he has started since he was acquired from the Pirates.

Woodruff, meanwhile, is 3-0 with a 1.67 ERA in his last four starts. Overall, the Brewers sport a pretty formidable record in Woodruff's home starts this season, losing only once–to the Pittsburgh Pirates on July 9–in 11 games.

Given that there are pretty strong reasons to back either side, you can't go wrong taking either side.

It's not at all easy to have any sort of faith in the Brewers given how inconsistent they have been this season.

But Woodruff's home numbers and the success that the Brewers have had in his home starts make Milwaukee worth backing.

This is not a game to invest heavily in, but if you can grab the ML in the 140s, there's a lot to feel hopeful about. If you're looking for value though, the best bet is the under, due to how well both Quintana and Woodruff have pitched recently.
