On this fine Friday, we are heading out to the West Coast for some MLB action. The Los Angeles Dodgers are hosting an NL West rival as they take on the Arizona Diamondbacks tonight at home. These two teams are kicking off a three game weekend series, but they are already very familiar with one another so far this season. Through seven head to head games, the Dodgers lead the regular season series 5-2 over Arizona, but the Diamondbacks are still hungry for wins. Can they pull off this upset tonight? Despite these being the top two teams in the division, one is much better than the other. The Los Angeles Dodgers now lead the NL West by 14.5 games over both the Diamondbacks and the San Diego Padres. Further down in the standings, the San Francisco Giants are 21.5 games out of first place, while the Colorado Rockies are 23.5 behind the Dodgers.
It seems as if Los Angeles is running away with the division, and show no signs of slowing down. However, Arizona has played them tough in five of their seven head to head contests, and tonight with Eduardo Rodriguez on the mound, I think they can compete. The only issue? Shoehei Ohtani gets the start for the hosts.

We are backing both pitchers tonight in the City of Angels. Shohei Ohtani has been rock solid on the mound this year. He has a 1.79 ERA and a sub 1.00 WHIP, but I'll admit, he has allowed multiple earned runs in each of his last four starts. However, against Arizona during the beginning of June, Ohtani pitched six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out six batters in the process.
The Diamondback's Southpaw has been just as good. He ranks third in the MLB with a 2.25 ERA and is top 30 in WHIP. Plus the man went the entire month of June with a 2.02 ERA throughout six starts, and has only allowed multiple runs twice in his last seven outings. Rodriguez also already saw this Dodgers team, and he pitched well. He allowed just one earned run on five hits and a walk through six innings while striking out three batters.
Tonight, I see both pitchers shoving, resulting in a very low scoring contest.
