The United States have looked incredibly strong in all four of their matches, but it's no secret that this will be their toughest opponent so far. Despite struggling during the group stage, Belgium still ended up on top of their quad, and they are still a top 10 team in the world as of this moment.
But again, they struggled against Egypt and Iran in their group stage matches before demolishing New Zealand to top the group. Things were looking grim against Senegal, as they found themselves down 2-0 with less than 40 minutes to play. They were still in that same scenario with five minutes to go in regulation, but the Belgians netted goals in the 86′ and 89′ minutes to force extra time. After nearly 30 minutes of scoreless play, Belgium earned a penalty kick in stoppage to seal the win, just before the match was about to enter a shootout.
Folarin Balogun will be available for the United States after his red card was overturned, which helps the hosts more than they can imagine.

You couldn't pay me to press the Belgium button tonight. Even if I thought it was the right side (which I don't), I would more than likely just leave it alone. However I will be backing the boys in the Stars and Stripes tonight to keep this magic rolling into the quarterfinals. As I said above, Belgium has been awful, while the United States have looked great.
To me, the United States are in much better form, playing incredible at the moment, and I think this team looks primed and ready to surprise some people in the knockout rounds. Despite us being a slight favorite, I believe the United States will bring a certainly "underdog" mentality into this match, which could make them extra dangerous. Even if Balogun was out, I still give a slight edge to the United States, as Belgium has been complacent and stagnant in their other matches.
They've only turned it on and flipped the switch when they needed to. And tonight I think they make that happen just a little too late. I'll take a push if this goes to extra time, but give me the United States to finish the job in regulation.
