Romelu Lukaku and Belgium take on Spain in the World Cup Quarterfinals this afternoon in Los Angeles - Spain Belgium Picks

Romelu Lukaku and Belgium take on Spain in the World Cup Quarterfinals this afternoon in Los Angeles

Spain made the wrong kind of headlines early in this tournament when they failed to beat Cape Verde in their group stage opener. Despite 2.10 expected goals and seven shots on target, they were held scoreless. But then we saw them snap out of it, stringing together four straight shutout victories. Will anyone be able to stand in their way?

Belgium did not look good in their first two group matches, and also struggled for about 85 minutes against Senegal in the Round of 32. But they dominated New Zealand when they had to in order to win the group, they had a miraculous comeback in the opening knockout round, and then they annihilated the United States in the Round of 16. Can they keep their momentum rolling against one of the betting favorites to win this entire tournament?

Best Bet: Spain ML/Under 3.5 (+140) Lucky Rebel Sportsbook

You could take this same game parlay up to 4.5 total goals and get right around even money, but I do not see this getting out of hand. Belgium will certainly come to play defensively, but I don't see them contributing on offense, and because of this, I also endorse Spain to win to nil at +178.

Spain has yet to concede a goal in this tournament, and I do not see them stopping now. Even though Belgium's offense has decided to show up over the last few matches, facing Spain's back line will be their toughest test in this tournament. They held their first four opponents to under 0.32 expected goals throughout their matches. Even against Portugal, they only allowed 0.63 xG while creating 1.69 of their own, while winning the match 1-0.

Belgium's momentum will come to a close this afternoon as they run into the brick wall that is Spain. Hopefully Spain's offense doesn't make us sweat the entire match to cash like we had to against Portugal. But regardless, the Spanish should win a low scoring match to set up a date with France in the World Cup Semifinals.

Prediction: Spain Wins 1-0 (+625)
