Portugal faces their toughest opponent of the tournament in the Round of 16, facing Spain in Dallas - Portugal Spain Picks

Portugal faces their toughest opponent of the tournament in the Round of 16, facing Spain in Dallas

Through four matches in the FIFA World Cup so far, Spain has yet to concede a goal. Sure, they were held scoreless by Cape Verde in their opener, but since then, the Spanish have secured three shutout victories over Saudi Arabia, Uruguay, and Austria. However, this will be the toughest test of the tournament for both teams.

Portugal also slept walked through their opening match, drawing with Congo 1-1 after scoring in the sixth minute of the match. They finished the group by beating Uzbekistan and drawing with Colombia, slotting them as the second place team in Group K. After a comeback victory over Croatia in the Round of 32, Portugal now meets Spain, where it might take a perfect match to move on.

Best Bet: Spain ML/Under 4.5 (+129) Lucky Rebel Sportsbook

I am confident Spain gets the job done in 90 minutes in this match, but I'll get a little greedy. The moneyline is certainly playable at -110, but I'll add an inflated under to get a plus sign. If you want, you can take this same game parlay down to 3.5 for +176, which I also endorse. However, I'll take this extra cushion in case we see a 3-1 Spanish victory.

I have very little faith in Portugal, but have they given me any reason to trust them? They drew with Congo (yikes), beat up Uzbekistan (yawn), drew with Colombia (but were dominated), and finally needed a comeback victory and the help of questionable VAR to beat Croatia, in a game where the Eastern Europeans won on paper. I simply don't see this team being able to net any against Spain, let alone enough to win this match.

Ultimately, I think this is going to be a relatively low scoring match, where two goals from Spain should be enough to win and move on.

Prediction: Spain Wins 2-1 (+725)
