We have officially made it to the Round of 16 in the 2026 FIFA World Cup! With this being the first extended field of 48 teams, we were blessed with several extra group stage matches, and even an additional knockout round. But now we are down to our final 16 teams, including all three of our host nations, one of which begins this round today. Canada and Morocco go head to head down in Houston, Texas, and our experts have their favorite picks.

Jonathan David and Canada battle Morocco in the Round of 16 today
This is going to be a wake up call for the Canadians. They simply have not seen a team of this caliber in quite some time, certainly not during the group stage or Round of 32. Canada barely earned a draw against Bosnia, whom the United States easily beat 2-0 in the knockouts. After that, Canada smashed Qatar (yawn), then lost to Switzerland on their home soil, when they only needed a draw to top the group, which would have guaranteed they play two more matches in their country. However, they lost to the Swiss, ended up second, and needed a stoppage time goal to beat South Africa in the Round of 32.
Canada has not seen a top 15 team in this tournament. Now they face Morocco who ranks No. 6 in the world, plus, Morocco has already faced two other top eight teams, so I believe they are much more than battle tested.

Morocco is by far the best team Canada has seen, and it's going to be a wake up call for them. Not only did Morocco face a top five team in the world to begin group stage, they also faced a top eight team in the Round of 32, successfully beating the Netherlands. Going up against a team like Canada will feel much easier than the last match, and I think that results in Morocco controlling most of the ball and creating many more chances.
We saw Morocco play from behind against the Dutch, and it was scary. They were pressing, they owned the ball, and eventually they found an equalizer. Plus, they held the Netherlands to just 0.24 expected goals while creating 1.38 of their own in this 1-1 draw. Even against Brazil, they won the xG battle and created more big chances.
I simply do not trust this Canadian offense to be able to contribute, and Morocco is way too good to be held scoreless for 90 minutes. Look for them to win a low scoring battle.
