s areAnother year of Islanders hockey and we all know I am so here for it. After losing their opening game of the season to the new Utah Hockey Club in OT, the Islanders will look to bounce back vs the Stars. Dallas won their first game of the season vs the Nashville Predators.

The Islanders are starting their season without their star goalie Ilya Sorokin. He just had minor back surgery, so we hope to see him soon. In the meantime, Semyon Varlamov will be in between the pipes for New York.

Their last game was a crazy one, but one thing stood out for me. The Islanders can't protect a lead. It has always been one of their problems over the years. One thing they can't afford to do, like they did last year, is trade wins for overtime loses. Those 1-point difference add up when it's over 20 games.

Returning this season are the staples of the Islanders. Bo Horvat already got on the board last game with his 1st goal of the year. The newest Islander, Anthony Duclair, opened the season for the Islanders with a goal himself. He finished with a goal and an assist.

Dallas looking to continue where they left off and get another win

Dallas' Jaime Benn and New York's Brock Nelson both lean in for the faceoff.

The Stars are coming off a great season where they finished 1st in the Central Division where they totaled 113 points. They are a very offense heavy team with guys like Jaime Benn, Wyatt Johnston and Jason Robertson.

Goalie Jake Oettinger is back for another season. Although he allowed 4 goals last game, he did get the win with the support of his offense. He is slated to be in net tonight vs the Islanders, who he got the win against last year. Going back to 2022, he is 3-1 vs the Islanders.

The Stars faced the new look Nashville Predators the other night and it was a scoring machine of a game. It was kind of similar to the Islanders game vs Utah. Lots of goals could be something we need for tonight. Let's check out the odds and get into the picks.

Both teams found the back of the net plenty if their 1st games of the season. I think we see the same again with this low total that I love. We're going to pay the juice man here, but you can parlay with a prop below for value as well.

I think the Stars pour on the offense and Varlamov let in 5 goals alone last game. The Islanders should be able to get 1 or 2 in the back of the net to add to this total. This offense 1st team in Dallas shouldn't have an issue getting going either with the Islanders weak defense.

Oettinger did allow 4 goals himself, so if they Islanders offense can cook, they will score. I really like for Bo Horvat to keep going full steam ahead. He has 5 shots on goal last game, so we're going to take him for 3+ this game. It's completely juiced at -170, but a perfect piece to put with the over.

I also like for Anthony Duclair to record a point a +105 odds. He was right in the mix of things last game, and I expect him to continue to be all season. He is on the top line with Bo Horvat and Mat Barzal, so he has plenty of options to dish the puck or receive the puck for a shot.
