Both teams certainly would've wished they played well enough during the regular season to reach the NCAA Tournament, but alas, both came up short. Honor Huff and West Virginia are looking for their 20th win of the season against Creighton in the CBC Semifinals
West Virginia only faced one Big East team in the country, losing to Xavier by 10 points as 5.5 point favorites on a neutral site. The Bluejays beat Xavier in both of their meetings this season, but lost all three matchups to their Big 12 opponents, dropping games to Baylor, Iowa State and Kansas State.
The Mountaineers lost to Iowa State and Baylor while splitting games with the Wildcats. In terms of overall strength of schedule, West Virginia ranked in the top 75 overall, but also played the 15th easiest non conference schedule. As for Creighton, their non conference SOS was inside the top 100, and their overall SOS was in the top 50. Clearly, the Bluejays are more battle tested overall, but will that matter on Saturday afternoon in Las Vegas?

West Virginia vs. Creighton Prediction: Creighton Wins Outright, Over 134.5

We are using the same thinking in this matchup as we are in Oklahoma vs. Baylor. Creighton is more battle tested overall, just like the Sooners. West Virginia is just 4-6 in their last 10 games, with losses to Utah, Oklahoma State and Kansas State. Plus they struggled in the second half against Stanford, needing overtime to take down their ACC opponent.
Now, Creighton hasn't been all that better, going 4-6 in their last 10 games as well, including losing to DePaul twice. However, this Bluejays team was in the preseason top 25 poll. They have the talent, they have the personnel, they just didn't execute during the season. But they are playing better now, and I see them trying to send Greg McDermott into retirement with an extra trophy added to his resume.
Even though the Mountaineers will try to turn this into a low scoring contest, the Bluejays have the better offense and should be able to find ways to put the ball in the hoop. Give me Creighton.
