March Madness participation is nothing strange for Utah State, who played in the first NCAA tournament and is making its 26th all-time appearance this year. Sticking around, however, is another story. If the Aggies are to do so this year, they must pull the mightiest of upsets vs. Arizona in a familiar venue for Utah State.

Utah State has much more NCAA tournament history than most. This is the Aggies' 26th tournament appearance, and they were one of the eight teams who took part in the first tournament in 1939.

But since reaching the Elite Eight in 1970, Utah State has not reached the last 16, and in 21 appearances since then, the Aggies have reached the second round just four times.

With a comeback win over eighth-seeded Villanova on Friday, ninth-seeded Utah State booked a rare Round of 32 ticket. But the road looks likely to end here, as the next opponent ahead is the top seed in the West, the fresh-faced but ferocious Arizona Wildcats.

Following a 92-58 romp over LIU to open the tournament, Arizona takes a 10-game win streak into today's matchup with Utah State. And that streak is unlikely to end at this stage, as the Wildcats are favored by double digits at Lucky Rebel and other top online sportsbooks.

Utah State vs. Arizona TLDR

This one could perhaps be interesting for a while, but don't expect (or bet on) anything other than a comfortable win for Arizona.

Utah State vs. Arizona Prediction and Analysis

Does Utah State have a realistic shot in this matchup?

There's a lot to like about what they did on both ends against Villanova, outside of making just 2 of 16 from three. The Aggies offset that by making 74.3% (26 of 35) of their two-point shots and making 28 of 36 free throws.

Things also didn't go perfectly on the defensive end either. The Wildcats made 14 of 30 (46.7%) from three and hit 70 points with more than seven minutes remaining.

But the Aggies put the clamps on in crunch time, allowing just six points the rest of the way and closing on a 15-3 run.

For Utah State to have a chance vs. Arizona, the Aggies can ill-afford to get into another shootout.

Viejas Arena is typically home to tight defense, and while that is usually by rival San Diego State, Utah State will need to tap into those principles to stay within reach.

That feels unlikely, however. While Arizona's youthful core may find the going tough at some point, the Wildcats are a horrifying matchup for almost anyone they could face from here.

I pointed to three-point defense being decisive in the Miami vs. Purdue matchup, and it indeed proved to be, as the Boilermakers made 8 of 14 to help them survive the Hurricanes' upset bid.

Three-point defense, among other things, will also similarly undo Utah State, who ranks outside the top 200 nationally in that category. The Aggies got away with it against Villanova, but they won't here.

Arizona doesn't shoot a lot of threes, but that isn't because they can't shoot or don't have shooters. Look for the Wildcats to keep the Aggies out of reach with a potent perimeter performance and another all-around excellent effort.

Utah State vs. Arizona Expert Picks

Arizona -11.5 (-106 at Lucky Rebel)

That Arizona is 21-14 ATS this season is impressive considering how often the Wildcats have been heavily favored.

Unless the spread dips, this will be the 21st time that Arizona closes as a favorite of 10+. In the first 20 games, the Wildcats are 20-0 SU and 11-9 ATS, with most of the failed covers coming when they were favored by 20+.

I don't discount the role that Utah State's experience can play vs. Arizona, but I don't see anything other than a cover for the 'Cats.

Arizona Team Total Over 82.5 (-117 at Lucky Rebel)

The only way that the Wildcats don't score 83 or more points is if they take their foot off the gas with the game in hand down the stretch.

Ivan Kharchenkov Over 1.5 Made Threes (+166 at Lucky Rebel)

The freshman averages under a made three per game on 2.7 attempts per game, and he has made two or more in a game just eight times in 35 games.

But he is third on the team in three-point attempts, and he connects at a decent clip. When perimeter defense is arguably Utah State's biggest weakness, there is an opportunity for Kharchenkov to take advantage of. And at these odds, bettors should not pass.
