There aren't very many college hoops matchups on Monday, and the slate is riddled with low and mid major schools. But there are a couple of Power Five contests that need to be discussed. Later this evening, the Kansas Jayhawks take on the Texas Tech Red Raiders in Lubbock for a Big 12 battle, but prior to that, the Tar Heels of North Carolina host the Syracuse Orange in Chapel Hill. Let's take a look at this ACC contest and find our favorite picks.

Syracuse Orange vs. #16 North Carolina Tar Heels NCAA Basketball Insights
Nate Kingz adds 11.0 points and 3.8 rebounds per game for the Orange
Both of these teams are about middle of the pack in the ACC, but may be trending in opposite directions. The Orange lost four straight in conference play before beating Notre Dame at home this weekend. However, they have two very tough games lined up this week, facing the No. 16 ranked Tar Heels and the No. 17 Virginia Cavaliers this week, both on the road. They'll have their work cut out for them trying to avoid another losing streak.
As for the Tar Heels, they have now won three straight heading into this matchup, and the last two were both on the road. At home this year, North Carolina is a perfect 12-0 and are 8-4 against the spread. They have been very dominant in their own gym and I don't think the Orange coming to town will change any of that. Syracuse does not have the offense to keep up with the high-flying Tar Heels in Chapel Hill.

The Tar Heels host Syracuse tonight as they prepare for a big ACC showdown this weekend
Syracuse vs. North Carolina Prediction: North Carolina Wins and Covers, Under 156.5

The Tar Heels jump from No. 142 into the top 90 in terms of possessions per game, averaging at least three more in their own gym. They do everything well offensively, leading the ACC in adjusted offensive efficiency, eFG% and turnover rate. They are also top four in free throw rate on both sides of the ball, and their defense significantly improves at the Dean Smith Center.
Syracuse prefers to play slower but get sped up with their hosts, and they are already a team that is all defense. The Orange are below average in the ACC in terms of most offensive stats, and they severely struggle to take care of the basketball on the road. They rank outside the top 10 in the conference in adjusted defensive efficiency, opponent eFG% and FT rate defense, leaving me to believe the Tar Heels should do whatever they please offensively.
Seth Trimble has been a stud since returning to the lineup, putting up double digits in all but one game in which he's seen the floor this year, including 17 per game in his last two on the road. Back at home, North Carolina will use this as a "tune up" game before hosting the Duke Blue Devils on Saturday for College Gameday.
