The College Basketball world was entertained last night with a top 10 Big Monday showdown in Ames, as the No. 6 Iowa State Cyclones knocked off the No. 2 Houston Cougars at Hilton Coliseum. But now on Super Tuesday we have another top 10 matchup, this time in West Lafayette. The No. 7 Purdue Boilermakers host the top ranked Michigan Wolverines as they head to Mackey Arena this evening. We are in for a treat tonight. Two of the best in the Big Ten battle it out at a historic venue. The Boilermakers have now won four in a row since losing three straight to UCLA, Illinois and Indiana, including an overtime win over No. 7 Nebraska in Lincoln last week. But can they step up to the challenge against the No. 1 overall team in the country?
All year long, Michigan has been the best team in college hoops. Yes, even better than Arizona (in one man's opinion). But they'll have their work cut out for them on the road tonight as the target on their back is beaming. Everyone wants a piece of the top dawg. Can they pull off this win as short road favorites at Mackey Arena? A place where Purdue has fallen a couple time this year to top teams.

Michigan vs. Purdue Prediction: Michigan Wins and Covers, Over 156.5

The Wolverines will push this pace, even if the Boilermakers don't want to run. That's how dominant they are. They can completely flip a switch whenever they have to, as we saw against UCLA. Michigan led by just two points at halftime against the Bruins on Saturday, but then held them to just 18 second half points on their way to a 30 point victory. Utter dominance. Sure, Purdue should be a tougher opponent, but the Wolverines have the front court to compete with the Boilermakers on the boards, and have more scoring options in my mind.
While Purdue likes to play slow, they struggle to get to the line, ranking bottom 35 in the country in FT Rate offense, and that number hardly improves at home. On the other hand, Michigan is top 70 at getting to the stripe and top 20 at keeping their foes off of it. The biggest battle in this game will be on the boards, where the teams are about evenly matched, however I can't get over the defense of the Wolverines.
They'll use their defense to contest shots, force misses, grab the board and break out the other way very quickly. We saw Purdue try and melt away a win on the road in Lincoln, and against the top team in the country, I don't seem them slowing down the Wolverines' offense at all.
