NASCAR Cup Series Great American Getaway 400 Predictions & Picks: Will Hamlin’s Hot Streak Continue at Pocono?

At the start of the NASCAR Cup Series season, Tyler Reddick was a dominant force. Now, his boss has taken over as the in-form driver on the circuit. Will the good times keep on rolling for Denny Hamlin this week? Given the setting of today's Great American Getaway 400, the possibilities are very, very high.

Luck has not been on Hamlin's side multiple times this season, but the tide has seemingly turned for him and the No. 11 Joe Gibbs Racing team.

After leading the most laps but not winning at Martinsville and Kansas, coming second to Chase Elliott at Texas, and having his Coca-Cola 600 chances ruined by the rain, Hamlin went from the back to the front to win at Nashville and Michigan in the past two weeks.

First, it was coming back after jumping the start in the Cracker Barrel 400, then getting past and holding off teammate Christopher Bell for the win after benefitting from a late caution. Then in last week's FireKeepers Casino 400, he won by more than 10 seconds after winning pole but starting from the back after practice damage forced repairs.

With Reddick, who finished 35^th, suffering his first DNF of the season at Michigan, Hamlin is all of a sudden now only 51 points adrift in the standings with 11 regular season races remaining.

Will Hamlin dig into that deficit even more today? The odds are in his favor.

This week's race is at Pocono, where Hamlin has more Cup Series wins than anyone. He owns a record five wins in the race now known as the Great American Getaway 400, while he won the series' other race twice before it left the schedule after 2021.

A sixth win in this race and an eighth overall Pocono win would be Hamlin's 64^th Cup Series win, which would move him past the late Kyle Busch into sole possession of ninth all-time.

Given his Pocono history and current form, Hamlin likely would have been the race favorite even if he wasn't going to start near the front. But after he beat out Kyle Larson for pole, Hamlin is an even clearer favorite at Lucky Rebel and other top online sportsbooks.

Chase Elliott to Finish in the Top 10 (-110 at Lucky Rebel)

Elliott has had three finishes outside of the top 20 in his last four races, and at Michigan, he finished 32^nd after being involved in the scary wreck that resulted in a fractured wrist for Christopher Bell.

But Elliott has a solid history at Pocono, where he won this race in 2022 and has five top-five finishes and 11 top-10 finishes in 16 starts, including four consecutive top 10s since the Great American Getaway 400 became the only Pocono race on the schedule.

Elliott will start 23^rd, the third time in five races that he will start outside the top 20. I still like the value here given his Pocono track record.

Kyle Larson to Finish in the Top Three (+150 at Lucky Rebel)

It has been a real feast or famine stretch for Larson, who has either finished outside of the top 20 or in the top five across his last eight races. Last week was the latter as he came in fourth behind Hamlin, Erik Jones, and Bubba Wallace.

What will it be for the Great American Getaway 400? Larson has yet to win at Pocono in 18 career Cup Series starts, but he owns five top-five finishes and 10 top-10 finishes.

After equaling his best qualifying result of the season, I like Larson's chances to make it a feast week, even if his search for his first win of the season carries over into next week.

Erik Jones to Finish in the Top 10 (+120 at Lucky Rebel)

After recording four consecutive top-20 finishes for the first time since the 2023 season, Jones took his run to five by recording his best Cup Series finish since he won the Southern 500 at Darlington in 2022.

With finishes of 12^th, 19^th, 13^th, 11^th, and 2^nd in his last five points races, Jones is now firmly in contention for a Chase for the Cup spot after finishing 27^th, 28^th, and 24^th in the standings in the past three seasons.

Can he keep things trending in the right direction this afternoon? The prospects are positive. Only six active full-time drivers have a better average finish at Pocono than Jones, who has an average finish of 13.5 across 14 career Cup Series starts there. That average includes five top-five finishes and eight top-10 finishes.

At Michigan, Jones parlayed his best qualifying run and starting position of the season into an outstanding result. After producing an even better qualifying result this week, I really like his chances to keep this good stretch going.

Denny Hamlin to Win the Great American Getaway 400

I largely shy away from making race winner picks, but I am making an exception here for good reason.

Hamlin has the best car and the best team in the field right now, and had rain not forced an early end at Charlotte, he could be chasing a fourth consecutive win this week.

And if his form wasn't enough of a reason to back him already, he is at Pocono, where no one in Cup Series history has been more successful in getting to Victory Lane.

Odds this short for a favorite are atypical for an oval race, but in this spot, it feels like you are still getting great value.
