The UFC is taking the action to Philly for a massive card at UFC 330 this Saturday. The card is stacked with 12 high level match ups headlined by 2 world title fights to cap off the card!

MMA gods are blessing the fans with not 1 but 2 title fights on the same card as it does not happen often. Maybe the 2 title fights are meant to boost some of the lack of name value on the under card but beggers cant be choosers in the MMA world.

The Main event features the return of Welterweight champion Islam Makhachev taking on Ian Garry. A title shot for Garry is long overdue as the UFC has been building him up carefully since joining the UFC.

The Co – Main event will be the first title defense for Strawweight champion Mackenzie Dern. UFC brass has done a great job at match making and given her a high level grappler in Gillian Robertson.

The Featured Prelim leading up to the Main card is sure to bring fireworks as well. Joel Alvarez will make his second trip to the octagon at Welterweight when he takes on Chidi Njokuani.

Featured Preliminary Bout: Chidi Njokuani vs Joel Alvarez Preview – Welterweight

The highly touted prospect Joel Alvarez will make his second welterweight appearance Saturday night. He will take on longtime welterweight Veteran Chidi Njokuani in a 3 round bout.

What makes the bout ever more interesting is that both fighters are looking to bounce back from tough losses at the start of this year. Njokuani took on Carlos Leal in Feburary and fell short in a unanimous decision loss.

The loss actually marked the second straight for Chidi, as he came into the match up off a submission loss to Jake Mathews in 2025. At 37 years old and being such a large body for the division, I have to imagine these weight cuts are starting to take their toll.

Before the tough streak of back to back losses, Chidi had actually put a run together of 3 straight victories between 2024-2025. Despite that, the once flashy striker in Chidi Njokuani has noticeably taken a step back in the speed and explosiveness aspect of his game.

Will Chidi Be A Good Test For Alvarez?

A veteran of the sport, Chidi has many fights under his belt both in kickboxing and MMA. He spent time in Bellator, going 5-3 before eventually getting a shot on Dana White's Contender Series.

In his contender series bout, Chidi impressed UFC brass with a highlight reel knock out over Mario Sousa. The knockout proved just how dangerous Chidi can be in the striking department and put the whole MMA community on notice.

Since getting his opportunity his hype has died down going 5-5 in 10 fights with the promotion. It seems as if father time has started to show his ugly head as well, and he is now serving as more of a gatekeeper to welterweight.

Chidi Njokuani will be the perfect bounce back test for a fighter as talented as Joel Alvarez. Alvarez is highly touted Spanish prospect who has made a name for himself down in the lightweight division.

The weight cuts to lightweight began to take a toll on his body forcing the move up a division. It could be due to his incredible size for the light weight and even Welterweight divisions.

Alvarez stands at 6 foot 3 inches tall with a 77" reach, a complete anomaly in the lightweight division and still oversized for welterweight. At light weight he was able to put together 2 separate 4 fight winning streaks including the one he was riding before his move up to Welterweight.

Will Alvarez Find His Footing At Welterweight?

In his first fight at welterweight, Alvarez drew one of the toughest match ups imaginable for a debut to a new division. He took on highly touted prospect and top 5 contender Yaroslav Amosov where he was taken down and submitted early in round 2.

Alvarez did find some success in the 1st round but eventually lost his welterweight debut. The spanish prospect took the loss as another Knick in his armor and is looking to turn around in just 3 months in search of his first Welterweight victory.

In a stark contrast from his debut, Alvarez is looking at a much more favorable match up here. There is no doubt he will have the speed and power advantage in the striking department being 5 years younger then Chidi.

If the fight plays out on the ground, Alvarez has a plethora of tools in his bag to finish the fight. Alvarez is a very decorated grappler and high level BJJ artist with over 17 submission wins on his record.

Some would call him a submission specialist, but I believe it was his first strength in his skill set. It is his bread and butter so to say, and now that he has real UFC experience with better gyms and training partners, I believe the Spanish prospect is fully rounding out his game.

This is a very favorable match up for Alvarez and it is very clear what the UFC is trying to do here. The plan is to get their upcoming Spanish star a finish victory on a big card to recapture some of his momentum and I expect Alvarez to do exactly that.
