Tonight begins the final series of the year between the Philadelphia Phillies and the San Diego Padres unless the two were to meet in the postseason. They go at each other for three games at the Bank this week, after facing off at Petco Park just last week. In that series, the Phillies successfully swept their hosts, beating them in all three games. Will they keep that trend going at home? Or will the Padres come with some extra fire, fueled by revenge? Let's find out with our MLB expert picks.

Xander Bogaerts is on a two game hitting streak, with hits in four of his last five games - Padres Phillies Picks

Xander Bogaerts is on a two game hitting streak, with hits in four of his last five games

Despite the Phillies winning all three games of the previous series, they didn't necessarily light up the scoreboard. They won games one and three by an identical score of 3-0, and beat them 4-3 in game two. No contest was particularly high scoring, but we'll see if that changes with two righties on the mound.

Randy Vasquez starts for the Padres while Aaron Nola gets the nod for the hosts. Both aren't having the best year so far, as they both post ERA's north of 3.25 and WHIPs above 1.20. But could either one of them turn things around and have a solid outing tonight?

Randy Vasquez has great splits on the road, but I'm looking at his last couple of starts. In his last two outings, in 10 total innings pitched, Vasquez has allowed seven total earned runs on 14 hits and four walks, giving up at least three earned runs in every start. This includes giving up four earned runs and three home runs in just 5.2 innings against the Phillies in his last outing. Both his ERA and WHIP are slightly up during the month of May, indicating he might be on a downhill slide at the moment. But Aaron Nola is the same way.

The Phillies' stud has allowed at least two earned runs in four straight starts, giving him a 5.37 ERA over the past month. In his last outing against the Padres, he gave up two earned runs on just three hits. With these two pitchers having a combined ERA of exactly 9.00, I've got to lean with both offenses scoring plenty.

The Phillies' .224 average jumps to .230 against right handed pitchers, and all the way up to .241 when playing at the Bank. Despite three low scoring games between the two last weekend, tonight feels like the night that the bats let loose a little bit.
