Yankees vs Giants Opening Day Preview

The Bronx Bombers, led by the reigning AL MVP, are looking to start the season on the right foot, and they'll hand the ball to lefty Max Fried to set the tone.

Fried is coming off his first season in New York in 2025, where he went 19-5 with a 2.86 ERA and a 3.07 FIP.

Offensively, this is largely the same Yankees lineup that led the league with a 122 wRC+ and posted a .777 OPS against right-handed pitching last season. That said, they'll be tested right out of the gate by one of the game's top right-handers in Logan Webb, who gets the Opening Day nod for San Francisco.

Webb picked up 15 wins last season, his highest total since 2022, while posting a 3.22 ERA and an even more impressive 2.60 FIP. His battle against one of the most dangerous offenses in baseball will be fascinating to watch unfold.

On the other side, Fried won't have it easy either. San Francisco finished ninth in OPS (.740) and 10th in wRC+ (108) against left-handed pitching last year.

The Giants also made some notable additions this offseason, including infielder Luis Arraez and outfielder Harrison Bader, giving this lineup a bit more versatility heading into 2026.

Best Bet – Yankees vs Giants

  • Giants Moneyline (+108)

Do the San Francisco Giants have the better lineup on paper? No. But this is still a formidable group, and they've got one of the best arms in baseball on the mound to support their case.

Logan Webb is among the top pitchers in the game, and in a packed Opening Day environment at Oracle Park, this is the type of spot he can thrive in. It should feel closer to a postseason atmosphere than a typical regular season game.

This isn't a direct fade of Max Fried, but I give Webb a slight edge here, especially at home in this matchup.

More importantly, in a sport as volatile as baseball, particularly in a standalone Opening Day setting, the gap between these two lineups and starting pitchers is fairly minimal. When that's the case, getting a plus-money price becomes the deciding factor, which makes the Giants the more appealing side tonight.
