Sunday Night Baseball is here once again, and although we have plenty of afternoon action, let's turn our attention towards Citizens Bank Park, where the Philadelphia Phillies host the New York Yankees in their series finale. In their only meeting of the season, the Phillies are looking to avoid being swept at home, after losing the opening two contests to New York this weekend. Both of these teams currently sit in second place in their respective divisions. The Yankees are two games back from the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East, very comfortably ahead of the Red Sox who are sitting in third. Philadelphia finds themselves 5.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves in the NL East, and they are also decently ahead of the Nationals in third.
However, the Phillies have now lost four in a row, going just 2-6 since the All Star Break. They need their star on the mound to help turn things around tonight, as they figure out how to fix the bats. As for the Yankees, they have now won three consecutive games, going 5-3 since the break, and 5-1 in their last six games. Can they complete the sweep tonight?

This isn't rocket science folks. The last two games between these teams have seen just five total runs. On Friday, New York won 1-0, and last night they did so 3-1. As a team, both ball clubs have SEVERELY struggled since coming back from the break.
For example, the New York Yankees hit .234 as a team. But during the month of July, that is down to .224 after hitting just .222 in June. And now, in eight games, they are hitting less than .200 (.197) as a team since the break. Things aren't much better for the Phillies whose .235 average is down to .225 in July, and .222 in eight games since the break.
Plus, Cristopher Sanchez and Will Warren both start. Their combined ERA is just 6.65, and both WHIPs are below 1.40. Warren has looked solid in his last two outings, and Sanchez has been elite all year long (except for in the All Star Game). I assume the Phillies will win the game, as the betting odds suggest. They have only been swept at home once this season, to Atlanta very early on. After losing four in a row, this is a spot where I believe they can turn things around, thanks to the lefty on the mound. But ultimately I believe Warren also has a solid night, resulting in this staying low scoring like the rest of the series.
