The New York Mets are looking for anything positive as they close out this road series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. New York has now been on the losing end of their last seven games, including the last two out in LA. This is the start of a two series road trip, as they stop in Chicago on their way back to the Big Apple. Can they stop the skid and find a way to upset the World Series Champions with Shohei Ohtani on the mound? Let's see if we can find any picks in this MLB contest.

The Mets find themselves at the bottom of the NL East early on in the season, while the Dodgers are well on their way to a fifth straight NL West Title. New York has the second worst offense in terms of runs scored in the National League, and the Dodgers have the second best, third in the entire MLB. Plus, Shohei Ohtani takes the bump, and he's done well in two outings. However, he's just 1/6 with three walks at the plate when he's pitching.
While New York isn't allowing too many runs during this seven game losing streak, they aren't producing any. They've scored more than three runs once, averaging just 1.86 per game over the past week. Clay Holmes makes his fourth start of the season, allowing just three earned runs in 18 innings on 14 hits and eight walks. However he has sat down 12 batters. Can he give the Mets a fighting chance tonight on the road?

Trust Shohei Ohtani to pitch well tonight at home against the slumping Mets
Mets vs. Dodgers Prediction: Dodgers Win and Cover, Over 7.5

I'll take the bait on the Dodgers. They've covered in one of two games this series, and in nine of their 13 wins this season. Small sample size (obviously), but that's a win rate of about 52.9%, up to 69% if you plan on the Dodgers already winning, up against an implied probability of about 49% based on these odds. Perhaps we're getting LA by two at a discount.
They've only scored eight total runs in their last three games, but they are averaging well over 5.5 per game this season. Plus they hit .280 against right handed pitchers and are 8-3 at home this season. Now, I looked at their team total, and might not trust them to score five runs tonight, but Ohtani should shove.
Hit sinker, slider and changeup are all above league average and I trust his fastball to get better throughout the season. And it helps that the Mets are the third worst team in the MLB in batting average over the past week, hitting just .182 as a team, ranking dead last in OBP at .215. I doubt we will need more than four runs to cover this run line.
