What a pitching matchup we have on Tuesday night between the Tigers and the Yankees. Tarik Skubal will take the bump for Tigers, making his fourth start since returning from injury and Cam Schlittler will get the start for the Yankees. I'll share my Tigers vs Yankees picks. Let's dive into my best MLB picks for this terrific pitching matchup.

Can Skubal dominate in his fourth start back from injury?
Tarik Skubal missed the entire month of May for the Tigers with an elbow injury. During this 3-4 year stretch where Skubal has been the best player in baseball his durability has been as impressive as anything. Not only does he consistently go deep into games but he's available every 5th day for Detroit.
After making the AL Division series last year it has been a very disappointing season for the Tigers. Since Skubal's contract is up at the end of the season a lot of people feel like he will be traded before the deadline. That's why this next month is so important for him and the Tigers. Detroit could get an unbelievable hall for Skubal if he can show he is still his dominant self.

Can Cam Schlittler's AL Cy Young caliber season continue?

You just can't say enough good things about this pitching matchup. Tarik Skubal, back-to-back AL Cy Young winner against Cam Schlittler who is the favorite to win the AL Cy Young this year.
Cam has been amazing for the Yankees this season. 100 innings pitched with a 1.62 ERA and 118 strikeouts. He has made 17 starts for the Yankees this year and in 13 of them he has given up 1 earned run or fewer. This will be the first time he faces this Tigers offense this season which is probably a good thing for the Tigers. Their offense has been a mess this season. As a team they are batting (.238) with 335 RBI's and 665 hits. All of those numbers are bottom ten in baseball. The combination of their offense vs Cam Schlittler is not a good one. I think he has another start where he either gives up 1 earned run or no runs.
Skubal on the other side has been working his way back from injury and has pitched okay, especially for his standards. 16.1 innings pitched, 16 hits, 9 earned runs, and 21 strikeouts in 3 starts. However, his last start did come against this Yankees lineup, who at the moment is really struggling and completely beat up with injuries. As a team who is struggling and an offense who is wavering the last thing you want to see, again, is Skubal.
I'm not overthinking this one tonight. You have arguably the two best pitchers in the American league going up against two struggling offenses. I'm betting the first five under (3.5) and the full game under (7). Don't think we see many runs tonight.
