After winning Game one of this series by a 3-2 count on Friday night, the Cardinals dropped Game 2 last night by a score of 8-6. St. Louis has struggled since the All-Star Break as they have a record of 7-13 and have fallen to 3.5 games out of the National League Wild Card Race. Their bats have been the main culprit as they are only averaging 3.5 runs per 9 innings in that span. Despite the loss last night, they did plate 6 runs, including a Home Run by Jordan Walker. The Red Birds face a fantastic matchup today, can their offense repeat that performance? Let's break it down….

Game Pick: St. Louis Cardinals Team Total Over 4.5 -130 Lucky Rebel
I mentioned above that the St. Louis Cardinals face a fantastic matchup today and that is in the Colorado starter, Michael Lorenzen. The veteran right hander is in the midst of one of his worst seasons of his career. He has an earned run average of 6.94, a WHIP if 1.85 and a batting average against of .336. In 13 road appearances he has an earned run average of 5.16, a WHIP of 1.62 and a batting average against of .313. He is in the bottom percentile of just about every pitching metric, including Average Exit velocity, Chase rate, xERA and hard hit rate.
Behind Lorenzen is the 3rd worst bullpen in major league baseball as the Rockies pen is pitching to a 4.95 earned run average. While this St. Louis offense is not lighting anyone on fire right now as they are only averaging 3.7 runs per nine innings over their last 10 games, I do think they can build off last nights performance and put some crooked numbers up on Lorenzen and this pitching staff today. The Cardinals need to start stringing some wins together, which has to start with their bats.
Player Prop: Jordan Walker Over 2.5 Hits+Runs+RBIs +112 Lucky Rebel
The St. Louis right fielder is having a breakout season. Walker is hitting .283 with 23 home runs and 82 runs batted in. The All-Star participated in the home run derby this year where he ended up winning the competition as he captivated the audience in Philadelphia. Since then, however, he has considerably cooled off. He is only hitting .241 with 1 home run, which came in last night's game. Walker is showing signs of life, however, as he has registered a hit in 8 straight games and has cleared 3 Hits, runs and RBIs combo in 3 of his last 4 games. He has never faced Lorenzen but he has solid numbers against his top 3 pitches:
- Changeup – .277 ISO/54.8 Hard Hit %
- Sinker – .132 ISO/48.6 Hard Hit %
- 4 Seam Fastball – .202 ISO/56.1 Hard Hit %
I like this spot for Walker to do some damage against this soft tossing right hander and I would not be surprised if he goes deep today.
