We've bet on tons of divisional baseball this week and it's not stopping tonight. We head to the desert on this Thursday for a matchup between two teams in different stages of the NL West. The Arizona Diamondbacks are just five games out of first place, as they currently sit in third with their 25-23 record. At the bottom of the division is their opponent for tonight, the Colorado Rockies, who are 12 games back in the NL West with a 19-31 record. Can they turn things around? These teams already played at Coors Field earlier this month. In fact, it was just a single series ago that these two went at it in Denver. The Snakes took game one by a score of 9-1, but Colorado go their revenge by winning game two, 4-2. However, the Diamondbacks got the last laugh, winning 8-6 in game three to secure a series victory. Now the two meet again in the desert.
We have Zach Agnos on the bump for the Rockies, which leads me to believe we will see plenty of arms from the bullpen for the hosts. As for Arizona, they toss out Eduardo Rodriguez. The southpaw is off to a tremendous start to the year, but recently suffered his first loss of the season on Saturday, to this Rockies team. Will he be able to turn it back on at home tonight?

Back the Diamondbacks with me. Colorado struggles to hit on the road, and slump a bit against lefties. They hit .245 as a ball club, but that drops to .236 when they are away from home, and as a team they have hit just .227 during the month of May. The Rockies have lost two straight, three of their last four, and are just 3-8 in their last 11 games overall. They continue to fall down the divisional standings, and at this point it will be tough to get themselves out of it.
Eduardo Rodriguez actually pitched against the Rockies on Saturday, who gave him his first loss of the year. He only allowed three earned runs in 5.1 innings, but that came off of nine total hits. However, he sat down six batters as well. Ultimately, I see him getting back to normal today.
Prior to that start, Rodriguez had allowed just three earned runs in his last three outings, totaling 20 innings pitched. His 2.53 ERA which is already 15th in the MLB, drops to 1.65 at home this season. And his 1.26 WHIP decreases to 0.96. The splits clearly favor him tonight, and I trust the Snakes' bats to knock around the Rockies pitchers for plenty of runs.
