Wednesday blesses us with some daytime baseball as we have several afternoon games on today's slate. We will be heading to the Desert for a hot one as the Arizona Diamondbacks host the Unaffiliated Athletics of Sacramento. Sure, the A's are moving to Las Vegas here shortly, but for now, the team is based out of Northern California. Can they head to the heat and put some pressure on Merrill Kelly and the Diamondbacks? We must decide a winner, and this is the last time these two teams will see each other.
The Athletics have slipped to fourth place in the AL West, falling a full eight games out of first place. Arizona is in a slightly better position, currently sitting second in the NL West. However, the Los Angeles Dodgers are running away with that division, leading it by 11.5 games through the middle of July. Will the Snakes be able to get a game back tonight at home?

Back the Snakes with me tonight. Cue up the "vs. lefties" monologue, because it applies again tonight. The Diamondbacks are the best team in the MLB at hitting left handed pitchers, doing so for a team batting average of .270 so far this season. They are also 30-22 at home, where their batting average increases from .238 to 2.44 as well. They are simply more comfortable hitting at Chase Field, and against lefties, and both splits line up in their favor this afternoon.
Gage Jump has pitched significantly better on the road this season, but he is still in for a world of hurt. His 3.78 ERA is up to 6.57 through three starts in the month of July, posting a WHIP that increases from 1.32 to 1.98. Taking things one step further, in his last four outings, he has a 7.41 ERA with a 2.06 WHIP. That is not going to cut it against the Snakes who smash lefties.
Ultimately, we are paying some juice here, but I would be comfortable taking the run line as well. Merrill Kelly's ERA is down to 2.12 during the month of July, and the Snakes have won in two of his last three starts. I trust him to get the run support needed to win this game at home.
