Of course we're going to kick it off at Coors Field in Colorado. The Chicago Cubs are out in the Rocky Mountains tonight to face the Colorado Rockies with conditions looking great. On the bump for the Rockies will be Tomoyuki Sugano.
Sugano's got a 3.98 ERA this year but he's also giving up 1.6 HR/9. He's allowing an 18.2% BRL and he's been even worse against left handed bats.
Sugano's allowing lefties to hit .276 on the year with a .586 SLG and 47.5% HH. Eight of the 11 home runs that Sugano's given up have been to left handed bats and he's allowed righties to record a .586 ISO.
Ian Happ's a switch hitter that's been significantly better against right handed pitchers this year. Happ's batting .264 against righties this year with 11 of his 14 home runs coming against right handed pitching.
Lastly, Sugano relies heavy on his splitter, 4-seam fastball and sinker; all three are pitches that Happ hits for power against.
The Athletics are playing a series in Las Vegas right now, at the Las Vegas Ballpark; home to the Las Vegas Aviators. The Triple A ballpark is super friendly to hitters and it was on full display last night. We saw 11 home runs, over 30 hits and a combined 29 runs scored.
Tyler Soderstrom was fantastic last night, recording 3 hits, 4 RBI and 2 home runs. Tonight's matchup isn't as friendly, but with the conditions once again I just can't ignore this price.
Soderstrom's hitting .212 against left handed pitchers this year, but still has a 54.4% HH. On the mound for the Brewers is a 27-year old Robert Gasser. Gasser's got 10 career starts under his belt, but just 3 this year.
Gasser's got a 4.73 ERA this year, he's giving up 1.4 HR/9 and he's allowing lefties to hit .333 on the year. Gasser hasn't been good this year and this Vegas Ballpark doesn't make it any easier.
